i took the AP biology exam my junior year of high school and got a 5 but Johns Hopkins didn't give me credit because they don't have a general biology course. so technically, i don't have any required general biology credits...

are dental schools going to call me out on this? if so, are they going to expect me to go back and take a general biology course?

or will they see that i have a BA and MS in neuroscience and just play it cool?

somebody say something witty or sarcastic so i know i'm worrying over nothing

I imagine they would treat this issue the same they would treat someone like myself who only has 1 semester of English Comp. I need to take another semester to fufill my requirements even though it is really just a huge waste of time and money. Some schools may work with you on it, but my impression of prereqs is that they are just that, required before matriculation. Good luck on that one.

I don't know about other schools, but IUSD recognizes AP credit as long as you've completed at least one course beyond in that department. E.g., if you've taken cell biology too, you're fine.

If they give you a hard time, how about a CLEP exam and then take the lab? Becuase I know they want you to take the lab too 😡

Good luck and I hope they don't give you a hard time :luck: Is like asking a MD/PHD for their High School diploma

ok, that's what i was hoping to hear -- thanks, bill. i took cell bio (+lab) and biochem (+lab) and just about every upper level neuroscience course they offered. i was just worried that i would get called out for not having "general biology" -- which Johns Hopkins didn't even offer when I was a student.

*phew* 😎

Have you ever heard of schools foregoing the english comp requirement as well?

I can tell you that VCU makes a stink about it. I am not sure if I will even get an interview from them. I only have one semester of gen bio. I have plenty of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics etc... but dr healey said they have their minimums and blah blah blah. No other schools have brought it up though.

They are giving me this kind of runaround with a 22 bio on the DAT (21 AA/22 PAT) and a science GPA of 3.5.

I point this out just to let you know that they are sticklers about this no matter how many related courses you have and how well you already know the material.

applying to dental school is silly 😴

Also, some universities don't have a year long general biology course: they have students enroll in one semester of botany and one semester of zoology with associated labs. In cases like this many dental schools are fine with such substitutions.

Did any one here took AP Physics, got the credits so s/he didnt have to take it in college, and had no problem fullfilling the physics part of the sciences requirements???
