Umass Anyone??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm in the same boat. Interviewed and am waiting to hear back...

Given that the admissions committee meets on "selected thursdays," I'd say they'll need at least another week. To me, it looks like nearly 50% of interviewed students are admitted eventually, but only about 30% are admitted before March...

Good luck, and hang in there!

I've been complete at UMASS since early September but haven't heard a thing back 🙁 My "view status" page says I am complete but I keep getting the same error message when I click on "view to do list."
Are you guys experiencing the same problems with their peoplesoft program?

...

or is it just meee? 😕

Don;t be too concerned about the UMASS web page. I had the same problems and ended up calling them about it. They said that thye were going to fix it eventually but that I should not worry about it at all.....hang in there and best of luck

Ok. Thanks. May I ask when you were complete at UMASS and when you received your interview invitation?

I feel kinda left-out here

I honestly never found out if I was complete because of the internet problems. However, if you have submitted the check and when you go online you can no longer change any of your essays, then your application is complete. I went online found out that nothing could be changed (which kind of freaked me out because I had wanted to change two of my essays), but then a week later I got an email for an interview. Good luck, hang in there, I am sure it will be coming soon with patience...was complete in the begining of September...

Thanks for the info. 🙂

Just curious where you got the inside info from? Is this just from what you gathered from friends who went through the process, or did you find this out from UMass? Thanks and Good luck with this years saga by the way.... 🙂

I Think that they interview on multiple days of the week. They did not allow me any choice, in dates either, so I don;t really know...good luck

Congrats!!! Are you going? It looks from your mdapplicants profile that you are more excited about Pritzker?

Hey sbristow!! looks like the two of us have a bunch in common...Mass residents..you went to school in South Hadley, I was born and raised in Amherst, and we both were accepted at Pritzker (I checked out your MDapplicants page.....haha). Anyway, I wish to be even more like you and get accepted to Umass also.....

Also which would you go to Umass of Pritzker if it came down to the two of them????

good luck with all of your other schools, although it looks like you don;t really need any luck!!

yeah...after interviewing at 14 schools, pritzker is in my top 2 schools (the other doesn't accept/reject until march!!). i'm definitely heading there in the fall if my other top choice doesn't come through...

what about you, hammer? pritzker over umass? i thought umass had a highschool feel to it...and i think its about time i got out of mass 🙂 when i visited pritzker i absolutely fell in love - but i was there before the first and second years arrived, so i worry a little that I might have had a skewed view...what are your thoughts on u of c? 🙂

Hey, (jumping into conversation) i was accepted to pritzker also and thought it was the greatest! i am also waiting on a couple schools that notify in march so who knows...but I thought the students seemed happy at uchicago, had actual lives and interests, were NOT competitive, got great residencies (i could go on and on)...the facilities were awesome...and I learn well from lectures. I was told from a few students that they go to lecture and really don't study outside of class and do very well.

I also thought UMass felt like high school. It was fine but when I ask people in my class where they're from, I want them to say all different places, not Malden, Wellesley, Tewksbury, Springfield, Brookline, etc. haha

Sbristow and TracksuitsRock: I have the same overall opinion of Umass vs Chicago. The only thing that keeps on bringing my attention back to Umass is the $$$$$. Especially since Chicago is on the more expensive end of things....But I think that I will be much happier at Pritzker and that maybe happiness is worth a bit of extra money...Maybe we will all end up in school together next fall 🙂 🙂

I went into this process putting money high up there on my list. Then as I went to more financial aid talks at interviews, I realized what a reasonable budget all these schools seem to give. Obviously the huge debt is still there at the end, but I had pictured myself constantly struggling to eat in medical school, and now I realize that no matter where I go, I will have enough money to get by while I am there.

But I agree it is hard to pass up SUCH a discounted ride. Plus we are lucky in that our state school is also one of the top medical schools. But still...chicago... 🙂

wow... your stats and extracurricular are much better than mine. i hate how umass is such a hard state school to get into... :-( not quite the safety most other state schools are.

i sort of feel like with med schools, there is no such thing as a safety. that said, i applied to some less competitive state schools outside of mass (SUNY upstate, for example) as my 'safeties'. umass is definitely not a safety!!!

I'm curious: did your snail-mail admission offer letter direct you to accept/decline online at the same Web site where you submitted your secondary app?

Sooo how often do we think the admissions committee meets? "Selected Thursdays" is quite uninformative...

You have the option of sending in the $100 deposit and acceptance letter by snail mail OR paying online and indicating that you wish to accept/decline their offer on that website.

I wonder if this means that people who haven't received the letter yet could go online and see if their status says accepted....how did your online page change?

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but one of my friends, who is currently a student at UMass, said the admissions committee only meets once each month. During each meeting, only some of the committee members get to present the applicants they are responsible for. So it might take a few months for someone's case to come up before the committee. I guess we shouldn't get too discouraged if we haven't heard anything yet (I hope!)

try clicking on "accept/decline admissions"...

Can someone post the link to the PeopleSoft website? Was madly deleting e-mails when I got a "full inbox" letter and accidently got rid of the UMass e-mail. Thanks.

Any more acceptances other than sbristow (congrats again btw) ???
