Is UMass Medical School problem-based teaching institution?
The curriculum at UMass is pretty traditional from what I understand (mostly lecture based).
Are you applying there this year?
I applied to Umass Medical also, but am not sure if their curriculum is lecture based or not. I think it is though.... Do any of you go to Umass Undergrad?? I'm at Umass-Amherst.
Have you guys heard anything from UMass yet? I only got my secondary in to them 2 weeks ago, but I'm anxiously awaiting word from them...
I didn't go to UMass for undergrad--I wonder if they look more favorably on that? Any idea?
Finally, a UMass thread! All hail the Commonwealth!
I also haven't heard from UMass since receiving word my file was complete two weeks ago (I'm an August MCATer). Good luck to all of us!
any updates, fellow Massholes? I'm anxious to get an idea of the turnaround time over in Woostah.
Nah Jumbo, nothing yet. Or, in Haiku,
From you we still await word;
'least the Bruins won.
Any one else find it unsettling that the emails from UMass all say "Undeliverable" in the subject line? Like they are typing in a wrong address first, then forwarding it when it gets bounced back? Actually, I guess it's possible that this is not happening to everyone...ugh. I'm not really enjoying this waiting....
anyway, here's my Umass haiku:
WHAT? No email yet?
At least it's a nice day out,
I get the same "undeliverable" message heading as well. The first time I was a little concerned, now I'm just resigned to the fact that it is some crappy mail server that is being used.
good luck everyone
Has anyone who interviewed at Umass heard back yet? I interviewed in the second week of October and haven't heard anything.
They're accepting. A girl in one of my classes heard yesterday.
when did she interview?
I just received an offer for an interview at UMass on 12/11. Anyone else going on that day? Any advice from students that have had the opportunity to interview there?
when did you send in your secondary? i sent in my secondary on 9/20 (almost 2 months ago)............thanx
i get the "undeliverable" messages too through email
I sent my secondary at the end of September. I just received the offer yesterday, so make sure to be checking your email this week. Best of luck.
Have you heard anything about the interview process?
I am an MSII at UMass Med, and to answer your questions:
1) Although there are a few problem-based cases in the first year, most learning is done in lectures/labs/discussion sections.
2) UMass does seem to have a lot of people from within the UMass system. I think in my class it's somewhere around 15-20%, but that's a really rough estimate.
3) UMass is REALLY SLOW in their admissions. The adcom meets only once a month, to give you some indication. I interviewed in October and didn't hear an answer until May. This is not abnormal. If you haven't heard, don't worry too much. The adcom might not have met yet. Plus, we really haven't had that many interviewees yet- they post lists of the interviewees and I'd estimate maybe 30-40 total so far. UMass really doesn't get itself into full swing until later in the season- Feb- March is where a lot of decisions get made, and a lot even later (like my case). Also- if you get waitlisted- don't worry. They take a lot of people off of it. Maybe 30-40% of the class comes off of it I got a waitlist letter around May 1st and got accepted on May 18th. Some people got in around the end of July even...
The interview process is pretty stress- free (at least when I interviewed 2 years ago). UMass is a pretty-laid back, personable place and most interviews tend to reflect that. Usually interviewers honestly just want to get to know you better. So, it's probably not necessary to think up complicated ethical situations or read up exhaustively on health care policy.
thanks, that is some good inside info.
Just got an interview invite! I'll be there on Jan. 8th. So excited!!! UMass is my first choice, so I'd better eat my wheaties that morning.
Congrats, ted! I'm heading there next week and I'm sooo nervous. My first choice also... Good luck to ya!
And Dukie01--thanks for all the helpful info. Though I can't say that I like the idea of waiting until May for a decision! eek!
Thanks Wallie. Go git 'em!!
I have an interview there on the 18th. Since my cousin lives in "wooster" I'll probably shack up with him the night before. As for the turn around time between app completion and invite, it took 3.5 weeks for me. My app was complete ~Oct. 30 and I heard from them two weeks ago.
I got an interview invite today. I will be heading to Wocester on the 15th of Jan.
I was complete on or about the 15th of November so it took about 3.5 weeks for me too.
Good luck everyone.
Bump! Any news?
