I interviewed there and much to my surprise, really liked it; it is a very underrated program that attracts many of its' own students who enjoyed their training there. Since the merger between the UMass University Program and the Memorial Hospital IM program, the UMass IM program is now a 3-hospital program, splitting residents' time between the University Campus in Worcester (where the MD school campus is), UMass Memorial Hospital, and Milford-Whitinsville, a small, almost rural community hospital. Although Worcester isn't that great, it's not that bad either, and is very close to Boston. I was highly impressed by the dedicated faculty I met and by how happy the residents were to be there. Very friendly, social bunch as well. Although the program has a large # of FMG's, worry not, most of those they select have demonstrated excellence in research (plenty of MD/PhD's) and clinical interactions by rotating through UMass prior to residency (in fact, if you're an FMG and don't do this, my understanding is that your chances of ending up at UMass aren't that hot). For some reason, many grads go into Primary care or hospitalist medicine, but there have been some great fellowship matches in the past 3 years (GI at BWH and Cornell, Heme/Onc and Cards at Duke, and plenty of fellowship placements at UMass).
