I'm not applying to DDS school for another year, but I am looking at all of the logistics now.

Is there anyone who is currently going to UMDNJ, or has taken a lengthly tour/visit?
I'd like to get some input on the +/- of the school as well as it's surrounding area.
I'm in NJ now so I am very familiar with the Northern NJ area...just not the schools's area.
Items: Facilities, Staff, Schedule, Schedule, Area, etc.

Thanks for the help

Yeah I am from NJ and took a tour/interview at UMDNJ. It's in the heart of Newark in a terrible area. The good thing about that is the large patient pool. At the time of my visit (02), the clinic was still the old one from the 70s or so that was very outdated. I think they broke ground on a new clinic but you'll have to check to see when it will be completed. Tuition is very good for instate students, as I'm sure you know. Everyone on my interview day was very friendly. I have a friend that went to dental school there and she enjoyed it from what I know.

I remember not liking the fact that all of the books are on a 8,000 dollar DVD that can break when you are out of school and you are out of luck (not to mention having to print out all the text). Also, I did not like it that the class attendance is absolutely mandatory and they take attendence every day in all of the classes.

That is all I can remember for now. If i think of anything else I'll post. Hope this helps, good luck.

hi there. i go to the school of public health at umdnj. im starting dental school in august...i didn't get into umdnj dental, im going to one of the top dental schools in the country instead. that alone tells you A LOT ABOUT THE ****TY ASS PROGRAM UMDNJ has.
sorry...
umdj is very politically driven....if you don't mind most of your classmates not having any personality, then you'd be fine.
the facilities are going to be one of the best in the countries after this year ends with the addition of a new dental school. i can say already that it'll be beautiful.
yes, it's in newark, but no, it's not in an awful area...just an urban area that needs attention.
students have to fend for themselves when it comes to housing, making student life there choppy and uneventful.
im brutally honest. it's so affordable, y but if you wanna specialize, and you can get into a more research oriented school, then choose that school over umdnj. a dds/dmd degree from a better, more expensive school, will take you to further places than a degree from umdnj could offer.
im sorry if im stepping on anyone's toes....i've just made an abundance of generalizations.
oh, im from west orange by the way.
