Anyone know how far a drive it is from DTW detroit to the dental school in Ann Arbor? Would you all suggest renting a car vs. a shuttle service or something (im 22 so not sure if thats even legal but still). Also any recommended hotels? Can you park on campus, blah, blah. Im thinking about flying up the morning of and leaving that evening, are the times they list accurate as to when it starts and when it ends.
Thanks a bunch any advice and info will be appreciated.

The airport is not that far from the school, but I'd give yourself at least an hour to get situated and find a place to park and that whole deal. Depending on traffic, it may take longer. The interview did go a little bit longer than scheduled, so I'd take a later flight home that evening. The shuttle might be worth it... I live in MI so I don't know much about it. However, the airport is right off I 94 and you would just have to go West on I 94 to get to U MI (U MI is right off of I 94 as well).... so very easy to get around.

Hope that helps.

But keep in mind, there is literally NOWHERE to park here unless you get lucky and find metered street parking. So unless you're familiar with the campus and know where to find parking, I would not recommend driving yourself. Not sure how much a taxi or shuttle would cost though.

hi.
took a shuttle to the dental building from a hotel (free service). Here's what I did:

had an airport shuttle van pick me up (found number/$ info in the packet that came with the interview invite, Requires reservation) - otherwise if you get one of the 'limo' services at the airport, they charge >$50 one way. Stayed at a nearby hotel to dental school and had THEIR free shuttle service take me to the interview and pick me up.

$$ spent traveling/room:
airline tix: $350
taxi service (round trip): $~40-50
hotel: $140 for TWO nights (stayed an extra night) at the Microtel hotel (northside of campus)

hope this helps.
gluck!!

Sounds like a decent plan, im already spending enough on the flight, kinda want to minimize the rest of the costs. So will this shuttle from the airport run you to your hotel rather than campus, and then back from you hotel to the airport? The free shuttle w/ the hotel sounds nice though. Thanks
for all your help.

the shuttle from the airport will take you wherever you need to go as long as you make a reservation beforehand. if you're staying overnight, it'll take you to the hotel and pick you up from the hotel. if you're arriving the same day as the interview, it'll pick you up from the airport to get to the school and pick u up afterwards from the school to the airport... just make sure you make the reservation. (i stress this cuz i knew someone who decided to use this shuttle service last minute - since it was a pretty good deal- and wasn't able to get a ride from them).

i think a number of hotels near the school offer free shuttle services to campus. (even ones near the airport). I just chose to stay near the campus JUST INCASE.. ya know? :0)

have fun!

If you need transportation from the airport to your hotel, I'd recommend reserving a shuttle with AA Airport shuttle Express or Select Ride...they both cost $25 one way, I think. It's much better thank taking a cab (which costs at least $50 one way)!

It should only take 30 minutes to and from the airport, but if the shuttle has to wait for/pick up other passengers or if there's construction and traffic on I-94, it could take up to an hour, so leave time for that.

If you plan on renting a car, I'm sure you could get paid parking in one of the garages. There's one on Maynard Street, I think...and also one on South Forest Ave. They're both at least a 15 minute walk from the Dental School and that could be confusing if you're not familiar with the campus.

As far as hotels go, I'm not sure where the best place to stay is. The hotels right on campus tend to be really expensive, so it might be better to get one a few miles out and either take a taxi or hotel shuttle in the morning.

If you really need a place to stay, whether it be last min. or just can't afford a hotel in the area, you can contact Jake ([email protected]). He is the D4 house manager at Delta Sigma Delta (dental frat, alpha chapter) and I'm sure you can sleep on a couch and use the facilities. Only a 15 min. walk to school.

As far as rides, Metro-Ann Arbor shuttles work out.
