UNECOM Rotation site in NJ

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
not many NJ UNECOMers here. If you're already a med student at UNE, you can check out the rotations round-table that was in January. If you haven't yet started med school, wait until you're a first or second year to ask. Lots of stuff changes year to year, especially more so with all the health care reform going on, hospitals merging, etc.

I'll tell you currently the NJ housing absolutely is the worst I've ever heard of and should be condemned. I've been in ghettos better than what I've heard about their housing.

Housing really depends where you live. If you are in a place like Newark, Camden, or Patterson sure, but not everywhere is bad.

harumph

"...
UNECOM/Newark Clinical Training Center
Clara Maass Medical Cednter Paterson, New Jersey
Raritan Bay Medical Center Perth Amboy, New Jersey
St. James Hospital Newark, New Jersey
St. Michael's Medical Center Newark, New Jersey..."

Harumph, indeed.

Shy: Where is the Newark housing, again?

Unless you want to be within 5 minutes of these cities, just going 15 minutes out will put you in some nice places to live. However, because that is in northern NJ, they are all expensive.

Is living in Newark really as bad as people say it is?

Also, do most students live in the UNECOM housing??

Most folks live in the housing provided. Last I knew it was a condemned old psych ward.

I too have heard the same thing. Nothing against NJ, but that was the one site i knew I didn't want to go to.... (mainly because I'm married and didn't want to find an apartment down there)...

Living in Newark is NOT as bad as you think. I always find it interesting when people bad mouth areas that they have never lived in themselves. You have to be street-smart in Newark and know exactly where to live.

P.S. The list of UNECOM rotation sites is slightly outdated, as St. James Hospital in Newark closed its doors in 2008.

The new mayor seems like he's pretty great, too.
I'm rooting for Newark's success.
