I have heard about the third year rotations, and how they can be "all over". From my interview, my understanding was that the sites may not be in Maine, but that you will be matched with a core hospital in PA, NJ, OH, or some other place, and will spend your whole third year there. Those who choose to stay in Maine for the third year will be the ones changing locales every 4-8 weeks when the rotation subject changes. I have tried to find this info on the UNECOM website and have not found anything. My questions are: 1) Where are these "core" hospitals?
2) What about the 4th year?
3) Where can I find more about the required rural rotation in Maine?
I'd appreciate any info on this, or a point in the right direction. Thanks!

Dear Doc Oc,

I was equally curious about the 3rd and 4th years at UNECOM, too. To this end, I found some relevant information. According to UNECOM's latest catalog, the following locations are listed as "Core Predoctoral Educational Affiliates:"

UNECOM/Lehigh Area Clinical Training Center, ME

St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown and Bethlehem Campuses, PA

Warren Hospital, Phillipsburgh, NJ

UNECOM/Newark Clinical Training Center, St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark, NJ

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Paterson, NJ

UNECOM/Ohio Clinical Training Center, Bassett Health Care, Cooperstown, NY

St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica, NY

The following are listed as "Other Core Affiliates:" (also predoctoral)

Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, ME

Community Hospital of Lancaster, Lancaster, PA

Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME

Jackson Brook Institute, South Portland, ME

Maine-Dartmouth Family Practice, Augusta, ME

Mercy Hospital, Portland, ME

St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Lewiston, ME

Togus Veteran's Administration Hospital, Togus, ME

UMDNJ/SOM Affiliate Hospitals, Stratford, NJ

UNE Health Center, Biddeford, ME

Also in UNECOM's catolog, "Postgraduate Educational Affiliations (residencies) are listed" Contact them at 1-800-477-4UNE for a copy of their latest catolog.

I hope this helps.

Check out the topic "Best Osteopathic Schools," starting 11/18 under this heading. One student from UNECOM speaks to these questions. Also check the AOA website, which has listing of all affiliated hospitals for each school.
