Any thoughts?? I want honest answers here-- I think they are both remarkable, excellent schools, and they both have benefits to offer me. I think they are tied in my "top choice" category, and realistically, I will have to leave this decision up to the adcoms-- whoever takes me will "win."
I still would appreciate opinions from current students-- anything negative about either school??

thanks!😀

Hi catwoman,

I'm a first year at UNECOM, but I also interviewed at PCOM (however I was waitlisted), so I can give you my perspective on both schools. There's a lot I like about UNECOM. Probably first and foremost are my fellow classmates. Everyone here is wonderful-so nice, and the second year students are very helpful. I have met a lot of really great people. Also, we are located right next to the ocean which is gorgeous, and many people live in beachfront property for pretty cheap. Our grades are pass/fail, which makes it a cooperative, friendly environment rather than cut throat competitive.
There are, however, things I do not like about the school. The town of Biddeford does not have a whole lot to do (quite the opposite of Philadelphia). Portland is really nice, but 25 minutes away. Also, it is COLD! I'm not a big fan of snow and cold. Our library only has one printer...this gets to me. We don't have a treadmill in our gym, and as a runner this kind of annoys me. I run on our little rubber indoor track. Also, there are a number of professors who have left something to be desired. I'm sure you'd get this anywhere, we've also had some really good ones, but the ones that have been bad are pretty bad.

So, these are the pros and cons as I see them. I liked PCOM when I visited but don't know much about what it is like to go there. I'm sure you'd be happy if you came to UNECOM.

Hope this helps a little bit!

I'm a first year at PCOM and I love it here.

My classmates for the most part are very friendly and everyone realizes we are here to obtain the same degree and to have the same impact on the world. Because of this, there is very little competition amongst our class. There are exceptions to this rule, but in general this holds true. Remember that you are dealing with very competitive people in Med School so competitiveness is expected.

The school itself is awesome. All of the facilities are great. The Sixers practice at our gym so we have access to all of the newest gym equipment and basketball court. A bad part about the facilities is the study space. When all of the programs (DO,PychD,PA,etc.) are studying at the same time, it is very hard to find a good place to study. The computer lab is also just, ok. The computers are slow and it seems as though there are always a couple of printers not working.

Finally, the faculty. The faculty that we have had so far is great. The anatomy at PCOM is top-notch and very challenging. All of the professors are great for that course. Cell and Tissue I and II also had great faculty. The OMM department here is the very best around. We recently acquired Dr.'s Jones and Kuchera, two of the big names in Osteopathic medicine, which add to Dr. Crow, and the Nicholas brothers. I don't know (realize that I am partial to PCOM) if you'll find a better OMM department at any of the other Osteopathic schools.

Hope this helps

I agree with Chisel.

I applied to UNECOM, but turned down an interview invite. I am from CT but went to undergrad here in Philly so you weren't easily going to get me to leave this city. I love it here.

Chisel hit the high points with PCOM.

Do some soul searching. Only you can make this decision. 2 great schools. Good luck with your decision.
