Univ CO Dental School?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i heard it helps to be a CO resident.

I can't remember the exact #'s, but it seemed fairly selective to me. I know the incoming class is only something like 36 students, and I've also heard that it's tough to get in out of state.

I toured the school and it is very small! It is basicaly the basement of a outbuilding by the hospital. They are going to be moving to a newer building soon if they are not there already. The classes are VERY small but the facilities are great. They have the new simulators that record your drilling in 3-D. They also have a wireless intranet and each student gets a laptop, you can connect to it anywhere in the school and get to online lectures, etc. I applied last year and they told me straight out that unless I am a 4.0 OUTSTANDING student I would not get in because I am not a Colorado Resident. I even had an inside track, my father knows the Dean and a couple of the teachers. Good school, but good luck.

Anyone know if they have limitations on community college credits. I finished my undergrad work in 1999, and now I am in the process of going back to school to finish the pre-reqs. I may take some of them at a community college because of the reduced cost and schedule flexibility. Some schools don't have a problem with this, anyone know if CU does? I have tried to contact them but they wont return my calls or emails.

This is what VCU says:

Pre-Dental Study

A minimum of three years of academic studies (90 semester hours or equivalent) is required at an accredited college or university. However students are recommended to complete a four-year curriculum leading to a B.S. or B.A. degree. A maximum of two years (60 semester hours or equivalent) at the accredited community college level is acceptable. It then would be necessary to follow this with a minimum of another two years (60 semester hours or equivalent) at an accredited four-year degree granting institution.

Check the webpage for some other schools. It may not matter to some but it looks like VCU cares. I also went to a Community College my first two years but followed it up with two and a half at Utah State.
