I don't know anything about Chicago, but I'm finishing this year in the EM/CCM program at Penn. The anesthesia, surgery, and EM critical care fellows do most of the same rotations and are functionally interchangeable in the ICU. Briefly, there is great acuity here, a lot of call (which is both a plus and a minus), some great faculty, but also a lot of silos and egos, and very much a Penn way of doing things to which you will conform. PM if you have more questions. I can also put you in touch with some of my anesthesia colleagues who will be very candid.
