University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
judging by the responses, i guess u of iowa is not a popular residency choice or nobody cares.

I hear its a good program. Ive met most of the IM residents at the University of Iowa-Des Moines IM program and they seem to think thier program is preparing them very well. The program director is on top of his game as well. The Des Moines program is a community program, but still matches very well into fellowships. I don't know much about the UofI-Iowa City program. Sorry I cant help more

SDN ignores the miiddle third of the country 🙂 I would have chimed in sooner but I'm just a student (although I'm seriously considering staying for IM).

But I can say that (most of) the residents seem happy. I think they've done a pretty good job spreading the responsibilities out with the 80 hr rules, and the contrast of the UIHC patients with the VA is good so you get a good mix of routine and zebra cases. I think the teaching is also good.

IC is better than I expected as a place to live. Affordable housing, great cost of living. Lots of places are an easy commute. I live in Coralville and see several IM residents on the morning bus, so it must be managable to get in for pre-rounding. IC is good too - It's definitely a college town, though. Lots of bars and undergrads.

Sorry - have to run. But if you would like more info, please feel free to PM me.
