Everyone starts out at the Kansas City University of Kansas Medical Center for 2 years of basic sciences. Part of each class moves to Wichita, Kansas for the 2 clinical years.

What Nancy didn't mention is that there's a lottery for who will stay in KC, and who will leave, though this is generally not problematic - if you don't want to go to Wichita, you won't have to.

I'm an alum, as well as a nearly-finishing-the-second-year med-peds resident. The school is fairly laid-back, especially in comparison to the coasts, but has a good amount of resources for students and a lot of flexibility (hey, we all don't learn best by being lectured to!!!). Drop me a line if you're looking for more specific info. I can also give some perspective re: being an older medical student - took 6 years and a family to get back to it.

Do they admit very many out-of-state applicants?

My year of admission - '94 - they reportedly took about 13, I think, out of a total of 175 students or so. I'm not sure about recent classes, however.
