OOS applicant here (3.76 cgpa, 3.6 sgpa, 24 MCAT, retaking in Aug.) but hopefully TCOM shows me some love since I would love to go to this school and have family in DFW area.

Good luck to everyone else applying :)

Anyone know how to fill out the secondary?
After you submit your TMDSAS application does TCOM email you with registration info?

3.2 cGPA 3.16 sGPA and 34 MCAT. Messed up my first two years and my last 80 hours is 3.96, so upward trend. Also, have multiple publications and lots of clinical experience. What do you guys think? will TCOM show me some love?

Make sure you explain your bad years in ur ps or secondary, everything else seems solid so I think it's very much worth a shot

Academic performance in High School? Do they really check that?? If so, do they ask for your HS transcript? Im surprised that they look at your HS stuff, would appreciate it if someone could chime in on this. Thanks.

yeah, they check. They ask you to report your HS GPA and class rank on TMDSAS. When I was in San Antonio visiting the medical school, the Dean of Admissions (Dr. Jones) said they like to see your performance in high school and compare it to college to see if you improved/made strides. I did poorly in high school (3.2 GPA, 600/900 class rank). I did not think my rank would be that low with a 3.2 GPA, but then again, top 10% at my high school was over a 4.0. So, I would advise you to contact your HS and get accurate records because you never know, they may check.

being realistic, state schools in texas can only take 10% OOS, so that MCAT is going to be a tough sell. Make sure to put together a really good personal statement (they read every one of them and it is weighed pretty heavily at TCOM) and bring up the MCAT score in aug.

How likely is a Canadian to be accepted? I read that they do accept Canadians, but the numbers seem very few.

Has anyone been invited for an interview yet? The past 2 years interviews started going out this week! Check you status page! :)

If you do interview, can you mention to admissions to pull as many ppl off the wait-list as possible from last cycle. Preferably, everyone. :D

I am trying to finish this school secondary and it will be the last one for all my Texas schools. I was wondering if TCOM will even look at your app despite having zero DO shadowing? I am hopping to shadow a DO doctor this summer since I do have an interest in OMM.

They will look at your application. My cousin attends TCOM and she did not have any shadowing experience when she applied.

Do you think II will start going out next week??

Hopefully! I submitted 5/28 and I get my mcat score tomorrow, so hopefully they fit me in to the next round of II

Even though I am aiming for MD, I would not mind going here...I have heard great things from this school.

does anyone know if they review applications with a MCAT scheduled? retaking july 13th. My app has already been completed with all my other info and original score

Has anyone heard from TCOM yet? It seems like last year they started sending out II by this time.

Has anyone ever heard of anyone not submitting a third letter? I currently don't have a physician LOR and I think it might take a while to receive one. Would it be possible to submit the secondary without designating a third LOR but then send one in at a later time?

I'm sure many do not submit a third letter, but at least one of the other two should be a physicians letter

What are my chances of getting in here with a 3.2 cGPA 3.16 sGPA and a 26 mcat (7V 9P 10B)?

I have over 1000hrs clinical hours, a publication and 7 manuscripts. All this coupled with shadowing and community service

Secondary submitted! I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't ask for credit card info...

I only submitted 2 letters, both from professors in the sciences for whom I worked. Here's why:

From the TMDSAS website:

"The participating schools prefer to receive only the required evaluation letters. Additional letters are not encouraged."

Also,

"It is recommended that your evaluators be current/former professors that can speak to your academic ability in the sciences."

ie. you have the right number of letters, and what they're looking for is confirmation that you can think scientifically. I don't think you should worry :)

Texan?

Sure am and proud of it! Why?

In-State applicants have a WAY higher chance of being interviewed with low stats. OOS applicants with low scores basically have no shot.

Anybody call TCOM recently and ask when they may start their rounds of interview invites??

+1

From TCOM's website:

"Since we're a state-supported medical school, we're required to hold at least 90% of our seats in each incoming class for Texas residents. The remaining 10% are open to non-residents."

Well, nothing is guaranteed with TCOM anymore. I thought my stats were decent and I got a rejection letter. But they told me I could reapply. So I am reapplying this cycle with a stronger app.

Dude it probably wasn't your stats anyway, it's really just volume of applicants during a given period, so applying early is out best advantage to avoid being compared to a larger pool of other prospective med students. I had a 26 last year and tcom told me just to reapply because I applied in mid September last year, so this year I submitted in mid may

Do you think tcom will pass over people with higher stats for those with stats closer to their averages in these early interviews?

So uhh...I got an interview with TCOM according to the portal?!?! Can anyone else check to see this!

Mine just says complete! When did you finish your secondary?

The 15th! I have to check it multiple times to make sure Im not seeing things. According to previous threads, it was around this time that II started to roll out.

Mine just say your application has been received. I submitted my app may 28, but I just got my mcat score on June 18th

3.63/31. Completed on 6/15. Holler!

I the TMDSAS sent my app on May 31st but I have yet to receive an email with my login information. I've already completed the secondary, is anybody else having to wait this long?

I called for my EUID PIN. Is this where you see your interview invite? I see a spot for account status, is that it?

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. The two separate sites are confusing...

I took matter into my own hand and called them about this. Interview invites are being send out and apparently if you see the invite on the portal, you should be contacted within 24 hours.

Looks like you are the first SDN 2013-2014 invite congrats! I'm really jealous
