Haha, everyone will be a genius... They must have made a mistake when they pulled me from the waitlist! The biggest problem about the Ivy League thing is that everyone else looks at us like we're snobs. What can ya do?

Anyways, if anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Oh, and about the online lectures... I don't go to class, and I rarely watch the videos 🙂

Congrats to all who received an acceptance from Penn, you guys should be STOKED!!!!!!!!! Neuronix, any word on expected WL movement here in July? The pessimism is in full effect 🙁

Just also wanted to throw myself into the fray as a rising MD/PhD-2 @ Penn. Happy to answer questions etc. especially about first year. Congratulations and welcome everyone!

How do you pass? Parking in Philly BLOWS! =)

I just read the lecture notes, sometimes associated books, and do the practice exams. Yes, parking in Philly sucks. Don't commute. You will be required to be there pretty much every day for one thing or another.

... and why don't the grocery stores sell beer? What's up with that?! Where can I get a 6pack? )

Philly liquor laws are crap. You can buy 6 packs at any pizza shop, but they're ridiculously expensive (think $7+ for cheap beer). There are "beer distributors" that only sell by the case (nothing smaller) and there's only a couple of them for the whole city. They aren't badly priced, but there is a 10% liquor tax. Meanwhile, there are separate state run stores with mediocre prices and crappy selections that sell hard alcohol and wine. These are a little more widespread.

Some of the smaller groceries along Spruce St. in Center City sell the more readily available beer varieties, at prices that didn't seem too too bad at least compared to bars. Not sure why the bigger ones don't. There's a big beer distributor near 27th and South if you're in the market by the case.

hmm... I dont think I wanna go to Penn anymore! jk. Oh well, maybe I'll work harder now. Plus, I live 2 blocks from a decent bar, so I think I'll survive. Thanks!

Hey guys, I will be joining this fall as well and I am extremely excited 🙄 What is everyone doing during their last summer of freedom?

Nothing... just chillin. Watching TV, sleepin late, not thinking about medicine! =)

im a penn undergrad student who is premed and i can say that philly is pretty crappy.

congrats on penn med acceptances.

as an aside, here's a little factoid:

the c/o in this thread is used commonly on the hosptial wards to mean "complains of," "complaining of" as in:
"8 yr old female with a hx of febrile seizures px to the ED c/o fever"

of course, c/o also means "care of" as in
"please send this package to... c/o mr. sean fienes"

or

"class of" as in this post.

🙂

Just moved to philly last Tuesday. I have no furniture and no internet yet (I'm sitting in the biomedical library right now), but my a/c works, so I'm happy. Is anyone in town yet? Is there anything going on? I'm trying to figure out how to keep myself busy until 8/11.

In town, but not quite moved in yet 🙂

I was just wondering where you guys have been? (am sick of seeing other XXXXSOM c/o 2008)

just came back from France (Nice and Cannes) and Spain (Barcelona). as someone who speaks neither French or Spainish, I think I did pretty well - never got lost (luckily), thanks to English and universal sign language (once found myself conversing with an old French lady for a whole 30 min. The funny thing is we weren't using the same language the whole time   ).

nothingman: believed we met at the penn preview....

you can cross my name off that genius list... :meanie:

ImmunoAnt - Yep, we did... are you in Philly at this point?

If anyone needs any advice/etc. re: where to get stuff for settling in or anything else, feel free to PM me...

Stay dry if you're in this neck of the woods! It's a typhoon out there (or as close as Philly gets to one...)

What heppened to our thread!!! We can't let these other schools show us up! Where's the love Penn MS1s?!
