did anyone else apply to UPS this cycle? Waiting for decisions is scary!

Yea that’s what I’ve heard too. I hadn’t seen many people mention applying there on this thread. Where are you from?

Originally GA, just moved to the Tacoma area back in June from NC. So many more schools closer to where we lived back east than near me! Have you toured the school?

Oh that’s nice you actually live in Tacoma now, won’t have to worry to much about finding a place to live then :joyful: but yeah there are so many schools on the eastern side of the US it’s crazy, I actually applied to mostly east coast schools myself.

We are a military family, so when choosing where to move, this was the only option with a school nearby, besides where we were having to move from. I’m a non-trad student. What’s your top choice?

Yes, I applied and keep checking my emails but I knew (and keep telling family) I won't hear anything until February...I'll know by March where I may be going.
UPS is the closest school to where I love and wouldn't require uprooting my whole family. Fingers crossed.

As of now I’m heavily considering Drexel University in Philadelphia, they offered me a good size scholarship that makes tuition even cheaper than my expensive California “in-state” options...though I’m still going to attend the UCSF interview weekend to see what happens.

Same with me. It’s actually the only school I applied to because it’s the only feasible option for me while we live here. That alone is enough to make me completely stressed out.

I applied and am super nervous. I also applied to EWU and have an interview in a few weeks, but UPS is my first choice. I live locally and would hate to move.

I am super nervous too! I can’t move anywhere, so UPS is really the only choice I’ve got. I’m a non-trad student, and we’re a military family, so moving is not an option.

I’m also a nontraditional student with children, so moving is incredibly difficult for me as well. I went to the info session over the summer and fell in love with the onsite clinic. I’m finishing up my second half of A&P (my last prerequisite), so I’m a little nervous because I know how important that class is for admissions (but I did get a 4.0 in the first half).

I feel ya. I’ve got kids too! I’m also finishing up prerequisites, taking physics now. I’m nervous, but UPS was my only option. I as well loved the on site clinic and I’ve heard nothing but great things about clinicians that come from UPS, even from amazing PTs on the east coast. I hope I get a call!

Just got an update from an admissions advisor I’ve been in contact with and he said they expect to have decisions in the next two weeks. He also said the university will send an official letter but the director should send out an email or phone call indicating acceptance/status as soon as possible to allow applicants to make decisions sooner.

As soon as possible like this week?

Well he said they have a lot of recently processed updated files they’re reviewing and plan to have decisions made within two weeks from this past Friday. But, looking back at previous threads, people started finding out as soon as Feb 1

I’m glad they’re considering all the updates! I updated my app before Christmas and OTCAS didn’t verify it until Jan 10! I was afraid the update wouldn’t make it there in time.

im pretty sure they consider the update, from the impression I got.

I just got the emailed that I was denied and it was my top school so I’m incredibly sad about this.

Sorry to hear. :( Did you apply to any other programs?
Yes and I’ve been waitlisted at 3, still have to hear back from 2, and rejected from 4. This is also my second time applying.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Where else did you apply?

I wonder if OT should start receiving emails as well? Or if it’s a different process than PT?

Do you know your rank of the waitlist? There might still be a chance for you to get in. Where are you waitlisted?

I have no idea. I didn’t realize they’d be sending out decisions for PT already since I was told Friday it would be a couple weeks. Now I’m super stressed!!

Just got an acceptance email, will likely be declining since I’ve already put my deposit down elsewhere, so my spot will be open!

Do they give out any info, like where people are on the waitlist?

DPTbound101 and Missbosslady, Congrats guys! I'm a Tacoma local who will be applying next cycle (and I'm already stressing over it haha) UPS is my #1 pick as my husband is stationed at the base here, so not having to separate would be ideal. Would you mind sharing your stats so I have an idea of how my stats will stack up next year?? If not, I understand!

Rough outline of my stats (off the top of my head)

Undergrad: Sonoma State University
Degree: BS in Kinesiology & minor in Biology
Cgpa: 3.98
Prereq gpa:4.0
Gre: Verbal 156/73% Quant 155/59% Writing 4.0/60%

Volunteer hrs = about 700hrs total

Outpatient was 400 hrs in 2 peds settings(private therapy summer camp and a school based peds clinic), and 80 hrs in a nuero clinic connected to a hospital
Inpatient was 125hrs in an ER hospital and 84hrs in a SNF

Extracurriculars:
Was apart of the Kinesiology club and biology club during undergrad, assisted in my schools physio lab on 2 research projects and went abroad during my year off and volunteered in a refugee soup kitchen for a month and a half.

Hope this was helpful!

So I’m a non traditional student. I’m 27, two kids and my husband is also stationed in Tacoma, which is why UPS is the only school I applied to. I’ll try to give you my stats but there’s things I have no idea of.

Undergrad: university of North Carolina chapel hill
Cum GPA: 3.30 (on PTCAS, UPS calculates separately)
Pre req: no idea but you have to have at least a B in all, and I have mostly As
GRE: V 153/Q 152/ W 4.0

Observation hours: 400+, 2 Air Force human performance team PTs in different locations, worked as a PT aide for like 3 months in outpatient clinic, and 12 hours in an outpatient clinic

Extra: Fitness assessor for incoming firefighters in NC, research assistant working with strength and conditioning in police officers, my current job as an exercise specialist with a therapy company specializing in patients with neurological injury (SCI, CVA, etc.)

In meeting with faculty, I’ve been told they really look holistically at applicants and the writing components of the application are heavily weighted along with LOR. My stats aren’t amazing, and my experiences aren’t extensive but I really made sure to articulate my goals and who I am in my essays and the people I asked for LOR from spoke about me as a person and really knew my background and where I’m coming from.

Just got my acceptance this morning but will be declining, so my spot will be available as wel :)

got my acceptance as well! still deciding between schools but is anyone attending the chocolate & wine reception they sent an e-mail about? I am from WI so I will have to do a bit of traveling to get there

I’m from Texas and would love to go to school at Puget Sound, but out of state tuition is wild these days :/ I got an email saying that I was selected as an alternate which is great and so exciting but I’ll end up pulling my application so someone else can have a chance! Congrats to all y’all getting in, this is such an exciting time! And to those who are getting rejected or waitlisted, no worries! This is my second time applying to school after not even getting a single interview oppportunity last year and it’s gone pretty well, so there’s always hope.

I will be attending the reception. The school is such a beautiful campus, and most of the professionals I know highly recommended UPS because of the faculty there.

I’m on the alternate list and was wondering if anyone knows about whether or not UPS releases which spot you are on the list? I was accepted at another school that starts in May and I’m nervous I might not know in time.

I am not sure if they send out your spot on the list but it wouldn't hurt to ask! I know some other schools don't rank their waitlist so it all depends

I am very excited! Have you visited the campus and gotten information regarding the program before?

Yes, I visited the campus in October. My husband was recently stationed near UPS so it was my only feasible option for school, and a pretty good one if you ask me. The building is new and has a lot of good features and the on-site clinic is such a strong selling point of the school. Most people speak highly of the graduates’ ability to perform with an above entry level sort of finesse. I think this comes from all of the extra exposure with patients throughout school.

Thank you for the information! I definitely loved the aspect of the on-site clinic, one of the things that stood out to me when looking at schools! The only thing I was leery on is that your first clinical isn't until after 2 years of school when a lot of the schools I have seen have one the Fall semester of 2nd year. They also just recently cut out their third clinical and extending the first two clinicals
