with a week to go before graduation, i have to say that i have had a pretty good experience at UT. there are frustrations as there are anywhere, but the dean gets an A for effort in reforming the old school ways and moving to a more involved curriculum format. we have a wide ranging patient pool, but i promise you will see stuff in memphis that you just cant see anywhere else.

youre gonna have to narrow that question some to get anything more specific about the school.

Thanks for the reply...how are the facilities? How's the lifestyle in Memphis? Its good to hear that you've had a positive experience having graduated.

Do you really have to ask? It's Memphis.

Ask anybody at UT if they could change one thing about their school and I bet the vast majority quickly respond, "MEMPHIS!"

can you be more specific? I am seriously considering applying here but I am having second thoughts after your post. What about Memphis don't you like. I hear downtown is good. How is the neighborhood that the school is in? Is is urban/rural. Do students live nearby? Do you need a car to get around or is there public transportation. How are the facilities in the school. Do you get lots of clinical experience? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Mahaveer,

I am a second year in UT, memphis. So far, the program and the professors are great. We didnt have much difficulties in that department in the first year. We had a good class representatives and the administration was very co-operative with that. The program (and schedules) are organized well, there are great labs. The professors are very helpful and in their realization that this is a new experience for all of us.
When it comes to Memphis, the uni is located very close to the downtown and it have not personally met with any problems with safety. Memphis is not a safe city itself but for most of us, we use common sense and drive to school at night instead of walking regardless of how close we live to the uni. We are always alert of our surroundings and the police is very accessible and always patroling the area. They have police escorting system at night even if the student wants to be escorted to the parking lot. All in all, if precautions are exercised, there wont be any problem. Hope that helps.

I graduated from UT . Grads from D school at UT come out prepared for clinical dentistry. You will get great training in all areas of dentistry besides ortho. Don't be concerned with were the school is located. There are tons of great areas to live within a 10-15 minute drive from the school. I had a great experience there. I will go out on a limb and say most UT grads had a good experience.

Plus the Rendezvous

....and Central BBQ. Is that place still there?

It still is. You will eventually get tired of it.
