Has anybody received an e-mail from U of Washington regarding a criminal history clearance? I still have yet to receive an interview from them and am wondering if it is because they were waiting for my criminal history clearance. Let me know if you got this clearance prior to an interview request. Thanks...

    hey mpp,

i didn't get any email besides the interview invite. i'd write them a letter explaining how interested you are in the program and why you think that you would do well in it. i personally don't know what their problem is, your past seems to really support the whole idea of the wwami program. anyhow, that is what i am going to do with all of the schools that haven't shown me any love yet. best of luck.

When I interviewed 2 years ago, I received an invite on 1/21 and the criminal history clearance email was sent at the time as the interview invite. It is somewhat concerning when you know other people have already heard about their interviews but, based on the time frame of 2000, I think that there is still hope for good news. Good luck to you and maybe we will meet up in February at our interview. In answer to your question, I believe that they only notify you about the criminal history background check when they decide to interview you and not before.

I received my invitation to interview on 11/19 and have not received any correspondence regarding criminal history. I do recall that one page of the application asked for a signature giving them permission to do the background check. Perhaps you overlooked that? There is also something on that same page that says by law they must notify you of the results of the background check. However I've not received any such notification.

The e-mail I got was the results of my background check -- no criminal history thank goodness. I was just checking to see if this means I'll get an interview invite soon or if everybody got this e-mail at the same time. I had been hoping for a January interview as I have heard that most of the acceptances are from the January interview. A friend of mine received his January interview invite the week before Christmas so there were still spots open at that time. Hope to see you Alaska folks soon...Cheers.

mpp. Last year I asked Dr Hunt about the advantages (if any) of interviewing in January or Feb and he said that the sytem was set up so that most of the final decisions for the Alaska folks were made in Feb after the second round of interviews. That is what he told me but I have no proof that it is true. On the hand, why would he lie as I was in the January lot.

If there is no difference between January and February interviews for Alaskan WWAMI program, it begs the question of why have two interview groups at all. They have to bring interviewers down from Alaska and they could easily get everyone done in one week (only about 40-60 total applicants and not all will receive an interview). I think the reason is so that they can offer acceptances to the January group, but still have a backup in case the January crew has a bunch of loonies in it. I could be wrong of course.

A few questions for y'all. What is the date of the February interview this year? What is a good way of finding out why there is such a delay in my application? I hate calling them and asking the status of my application since they have such a nice up-to-date on-line status check that has shown my application to be complete for months.

I also find it weird that I'm the only one that has received the results of my criminal background check but also the only Alaskan I know that has not yet received an interview request. Did you get any other request for UW interview besides e-mail, i.e. a regular mail followup? Perhaps I somehow deleted the e-mail by mistake.

Thanks for all your help. Sorry if I sound like a downer but I'm just kind of frustrated since I have yet to receive a real interview invite yet even though my application has been in for over 6 months.

    Hi there,

This is found on the UWSOM admissions website:

"An authorization for a criminal background check is signed by the applicant. A background check will only be performed if an interview is granted."

I received the "background check is complete" e-mail the day before receiving the "invitation to interview" e-mail. Hope this helps....

In a moderately different direction: As far as you guys know, do they deal with out-of-state apps after they've completed WWAMI people? I haven't heard a thing good or bad, which is probably bad. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
