Unreasonable?

I have been complete at University of Rochester since early August and love this school. Their voice message explicitly says not to call about status and that they realize that this is an "agonizingly long process for the applicant". However, it's 6 months later and I want to know if I stand a chance?
Should I call the school, or is this a bad idea? (of course I won't ask if I stand a chance, but would like to ask the status of my application)

Thoughts?


Another question: how long do you wait after an interview before you call a school? I interviewed at Upstate and they said about 3-4 weeks. It is now 5 weeks, does it look like I am anxious to call?

Well, if they made an obvious point that they do not want calls.. perhaps send them a letter?

You are wasting your time. I have been complete since mid july and havent heard anything. I asked them and all they would say is that they review files until the end of feb and interview until the end of march. They cant give any info over the phone but any update you send them will be added to your file.

I think there are a couple people in our precarious position. I dont know why it could possibly take 6 months to review a file, we are probably on some sort of hold. Good luck.

I dont think you are rejected yet there. They have rejected a ton of people already. Some schools like SLU havent rejected anyone so if you havent heard from them yet, most likely its a rejection. But at U of R they have interviewed/rejected the majority of people. My theory is they keep a hand full of people around in a "hold" pile so that if people turn down interviews in feb/march then they go to that pile and give that interview space to someone from that pile.

But who really knows....

Yeah, just trying to make sense of it all myself. I think I got a false sense of hope over the summer. I have been in a summer program at the U of R for 2 years and there is a mock interview at the end of the summer to prepare you for the process. And at the end of it I was told "So when you come to interview here, please come by and stop by my office". The program director also asked to keep my poster from a poster session there, and I thought I had a good shot. Now the hope is draining. I fell in love with the school after two summers, and my boyfriend goes there too (not my only reason for wanting to go to the school, but a plus). I guess it will be a waiting game.
