Anyone heard of these working?
(I'm talking about a current MS writing a formal letter and having that aid your application).

I had two people do this for me and in one case it certainly worked, and the other is still pending (and thank you thank you thank you to the folks who did that for me!).

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this help out before. And what school it helped at.

I can say it helped at Tulane, so far.

MS...or do you mean MD?

Niki, are you hiring SDN MSx's to write you LORs? 🙂

No. I hadn't even thought of that. I had a friend at Tulane slip a letter into my file, and I greatly appreciated that. I also recently had someone email me who I met while at an interview - she let me know that she wrote a formal letter on my behalf (I couldn't believe it, and I am so so so appreciative for that- did *NOT* expect it at all).

I had heard of this at Tulane only, and I'm just wondering if anyone has had that experience- a buddy or someone they connected with who took the time to write about you, and did it help?

BTW Bluntman, congrats on your MSTP acceptance at UCLA! I've been offline since I've been up in Tahoe and I'm stoked for you!

I want my screen name to be bold, too. 🙁
You've got to get an into that NSF funded MSTP program then, champ. Lord knows it's not gonna happen for me.

Wow...that's awesome. What an incredibly nice thing for someone to do. I think I would be absolutely speechless if someone said they went out of their way to do something like that for me. I'd be curious too to see how many schools allow this sort of thing. btw it definitely shows what kind of character you've got Niki...sucks you don't ever get to really meet most of the people you meet on sdn cause you're a total sweetheart! hehe and thanks for the UCLA congrats, it was quite an unexpected surprise.

sounds like application steroid-pumping to me

Bluntman, you just about made me cry. Thanks babe, I WAS taken aback by both of them- it was awesome of both people- one was a good friend, and one was someone I just met and spoke to. I certainly didn't expect either to do something like that.
If you ever come up to NorCal, PM me and we'll get a beer or something. I swear, I wish that Mota, you, Q, Jebus, kirexhana, browniegirl, risa, etc and I could all get together and hang out for an evening. I think the universe might explode though ("You crossed the streams").
