    to the class of 2006:

please post here if you'll be attending Michigan, and maybe a little of your info(from where, what studied, other interests, etc), so as to get to know one another better.
    Lalo5:
From michigan originally, graduated from top 5 school in Michigan, in biophysiology, with chem/spanish minors. I hope to be involved with some research while studying, and have a few ideas, which hopefully will translate into some positive contributions to the profession.
I hope to be assisting for a couple of days a week during the interim between now and mid-August.
anyway, I look forward to getting to meet some of my fellow classmates, and hope you'll have the chance to introduce yourselves a little bit here. :)
    take care!

    Hi lola
I'm actually in the interviewing process to be your classmate, well hopefully.

as currently my interview is scheduled for the beginning of febuary.

I've heard the interview is process itself is short and during a lunch session with either a professor or another student.

but my question is do they make you write a essay and if so, what type of question do they ask? I've interviewed at temple and they asked me the toughest decision in my life and i was wondering if it's geared in that direction?.. anyways any help will be greatly appreciated and hopefully i'll see you in fall. later

Hey, I don't know if you went back through some other the older posts (there a few posts about this type of topic) but anyways I too will be at UM. I'm a senior there now, graduating in April. I'm originally from Livonia Mi so I'm kinda a local boy. I did Biology here (which incidentally isn't a bad major, but you have to take Evolution which although is the great unifying theory in the life sciences, is an incredibly boring class) as well as a minor in History. Lalo, where'd you go for undergrad? You mentioned top 5 school in Michigan but that could mean a lot of different schools. I've done research at the school (and will pick it back up this summer) and worked there in other capacities for about 1.5 years. There's plenty of research, just start emailing profs or go see Pat Schultz in Dr. Woolfolk's office. She has a list of researchers in the school and what they do; maybe you can find something to match your experience/interests. I know only a few other of our future classmates here right now (which suprises me since I just figured I'd know a lot more coming in). Either way it'll be a lot of "fun" from what my current D1 friends tell me. Also, did you get a place yet for next year? You prolly know how bad AA is for housing.

Sir- you should go back and look back at earlier posts about interviews. There's a wealth of info there. But the interview at UM is very easy. Don't worry about the writing, they just want to verify that you can put together sentences. The topic changes but just ramble for a page or so, it's easy.

    hey baccurso,
thanks for the input and post...i did my undergraduate work at EMU, right down the road about 7 miles, so I have some experience with the area; thankfully, I don't have to worry about housing, my wife and I have a place on the S.W. side of A2 already.
I did email Pat Shultz and M. Somerman, and I plan on attending the research exhibits on the 5th of Feb.
I really didn't have the opportunity to do much research at eastern, but I do have a few ideas which I would like to try out...
I can feel your pain on evolution, fortunately, I did not have to go through that experience with the biophysiology major...
do you have any ideas yet as far as post grad specialization? still kind of early in the game, but I know that some people have sort of an idea...

Actually what I'd like to do now is the DSA (Dental Scientist Award) through the NIDCR to get specialty training (dunno yet, I want to check them all out first) and combine it with a PhD (mirco, genetics, that too is open for discussion). I worked last summer with Dr. Rutherford doing tissue regneration, pretty cool stuff. I know a fair amount about many of the faculty so if you have any quesitons about potential research advisors, let me know. I was lucky with housing since as I don't have a car(nor want one) I needed a place near campus. But most of those places are gone in November to the undergrads. One of my friends ended up buying a condo across the street from the hospital on Maiden Lane so I'll be living with some med students for a while. Anyways, I've got to do some more reading for my boring history class (how fun, 2 boring classes right before graduation, yipee) so let me know if you have any more questions.

Hey guys, I'll be in your class next year as well! I did my undergraduate work here (B.S. Biology, April 2002) and I am from Sioux Falls, South Dakota (4 more yrs out of state tuition!) I'll be in Ann Arbor until mid-summer hopefully getting my feet wet doing some research at the dental school. Brent, I plan on meeting with Dr. Schultz, but one question: did you get paid in past summers? If you have any suggestions about possible research advisors, let me know. Anyway, I look forward to meeting you guys in the near future, and have a relaxing spring and summer.

FWIW, I don't think Pat Schultz is a doc, I'm pretty sure she just runs the Ph.D. and research departments. Anyways, hell yes I got paid. I've generally found that most people get pretty good paying lab jobs, they def don't pay minimum wage. Anyways, we've prolly had class together since I'll be getting my BS in bio along with you in 13 days :) . If you have more specific questions or just want to meet another classmate go ahead and email me. Later

1 other thing. I just checked and so far there's 104 people in the class right now which is usually right about what they look for. It might change a very little from now till when we start but I'm guessing that the class is now set.
