Anybody at UOP have any good advice on looking for housing? Specifically, how early to start looking, good places to live (and places to stay away from), commute/parking/public transportaion issues. Thanks!

Hi koobpheej-

I assume you did not get or want student housing right?

Well, aside from looking on your own, you could always call or stop by to talk to Kathy Candito. She is in charge of housing issues. PM me if you need her number, or call UOP's admissions office and ask to be transferred to her.

As far as I know, it is now pretty easy to find a place in San Francisco. Rent is still very expensive, but at least there are plenty of apartments for rent.

I have not had a chance to venture to every corner of SF, but I can tell you that Pacific Heights and the Marina is one of the best areas in the city to live. I would suggest avoiding areas like Tenderloin and Downtown (areas around Mission & Market Streets). But that's just from what I've seen and heard from others so far. Hope this helps somewhat....

See you in July.

I chose not to live in student housing at UOP because I have a cat and it was pretty easy to find a place. You should check out craigslist.org because it is very up to date and it is free! I think most people found off campus housing this way. It took me about a month to find a place in the Castro which is about a 15 minute bus ride to school. I like living off campus because it's nice to get away from school related stuff, but at the same time riding the bus gets old. The Castro is a pretty fun place and lots of good transportation is nearby. I wouldn't worry too much about finding housing, there seems to be a lot of places available.
