for sure UCSF...both are good schools but c'mon, you save like $20-30K more per year

I'd pick UOP. They seem to make their students happier than most other schools. Getting out in 3 years is great. The extra didactic classes won't make a bit of difference if you're doing GP. Dental school makes you competent not proficient. You need to advance your education either through AEGD, GPR, private practice experience, or continuing ed. in order to become truly skilled.

wow, that's really impressive. congrats. just to go whichever school you feel more comfortable in. people tend to excel in those circumstances as opposed to where you're always on "edge."

If $ isn't an issue and you know you are not gonna specialize, I'd say UoP.

Bottom line is that if you are gonna be a GP it don't make a rats a$$ where you go.

UoP is a good school with a good rep but the best thing is that they treat you real good from what I heard.

Damn the cliches but I'll say it again! You can't make a bad choice between those two schools!!

Congrats on your scholorships!

Thanks for the input, i agree with you. I just hate to let down a really good school.

What's ACS? American Chemical Society? American Cancer Society? American Candy Society?

If part of the conditions of your scholarship requires getting involved in research while in D-school (producing an abstract?), UoP wouldn't be so good. They have little research from what i saw, and no interdisciplinary research since they don't have a DO or MD school. You'd have little choice as to where/how you'll spend your spare time. Whereas UCSF, they have everything. UCSF has dental research galore, and a top 5 med school.

You don't want to specialize, but are you interested in basic sci research? Or do you just want to be a GP? You haven't given us enough info.

Don't worry. They've got plenty of other good applicants. :D

So your research is in "anti-sense strategy silicon nitroporihsd;lahdg....whatever." That's kids stuff. You are in college aren't you?

Seriously, I bet you rocked the Ochem section on the DAT. I did research last spring, but it was nothing like whatever the hell yours is. I don't even think I'm going to put on my application now.

I would love to go to UoP by the way. Three year degree and the faculty doesn't treat you like crap

you definitely should put research experience in your app, as its one of the deciding factors for admission. To be specific, it should be in the 4th paragraph in your personal statement according to Dr. Yarborough(UOP Admissions dean)

Hey there!
I'm going to UCSF and I'd recommend you to go there as well b/c quite simply you'd be exposed to more opportunities at UCSF. Studying/having nation's top-notch specialists can only enhance your general education. And I'll bet that once you're more exposed to those areas of dentistry, you might change your mind of not specializing. Who knows you might want to specialize later? At UCSF, you'd have a greater opportunity and flexibility to make that change.

Above all, you still get great clinical training at UCSF. Although UOP might be great for having a shorter program and maybe a better clinical education (which can't be that much better), I think you're cutting yourself too short on the opportunities even before you started dental school education.

My 2 cents
