Is it a good idea to update schools about winning a prestigious scholarship that would result in deferrals of admission (e.g., Rhodes/Marshall/Gates Cambridge/Churchill/Schwarzman)?

I am presently an applicant. I am sure these are impressive enough to warrant an update, but I have a gut feeling that doing so could have unintended consequences due to the implied deferral.

Would appreciate any insight you guys may have!

Ok. First, congratulations!

How many schools interviewed you?

I agree letting schools know about your scholarship award could give those programs a reason to withhold giving you an offer. I would carefully see what the schools' deferral policies are since some schools don't like giving out deferrals for any reason.

I probably would not update at this time. If you get deeper into the WL phase and you really want to go to a specific school, then at that point it kinda can't hurt.
