    Hey Guys,

I'm having a lot of difficulties deciding where to go. I know that UPenn is a great school and they really prepare students academically, but the facilities aren't great and I'm not too fond of Philly. It also seems that many UPenn students specialize, which is a drawing factor. However, I love Boston, and Tufts, as far as I know has a pretty good repuation also (maybe not as good as UPenn). The facilities are better also. Does anyone out there know anything about either one of these schools in terms of pros and cons? Do Penn students have an advantage over Tufts students in terms of specializing or finding an associate position etc? Any thoughts or inputs would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    hey MIT,

i think either school you choose will be great. I went to both, and although I liked tufts a lot, I wasn't too thrilled about Boston the city (I think it's because I went to BU first and hated that area...only if Matt Damon lived there like he did in Good Will Hunting <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ) I did like Tufts and the location of it a lot more, and definately the students were amazingly friendly... (they had the superbowl parade the day I went...sigh too bad we didn't get out of the interview earlier...)
I think you'll definately be prepared there, however the price tag is high (main reason I turned them down).

U Penn is also high so i guess money's not the issue here since it's pretty similar. If you have been following the posts I really wanted to go to U Penn. :) The main reason was cause my b/f and I both had an interview there...and it was a chance for us to go there together...but I didn't get in and we're both waiting for UCLA now. I think U Penn has it's goods and bads just like any other school. It's not in the safest area, facilities are old but you will learn what you need and be successful. I think that's the main thing... pick where you will be happiest and where you will have the most "fun." If you had columbia as an option i would say that cause we're all going to have a great time there :)

    MIT,
I will be going to U Penn in the fall, and I also was accepted to Tufts. I chose Penn mostly because I fell in love with it right away. Tufts was the first school I interviewed at, and I liked it as well...but i just felt as if I belonged at Penn. The facilities aren't as new as Tufts, but I figured the education that I will receive at Penn is worth it. I also want to specialize which made Penn really appealing. I have heard from people at Tufts that there aren't enough chairs once you get into clinic, which I personally felt wasn't something that I wanted in a school. I've also heard that there aren't enough professors there, but I've heard that that might be because its' a private school...
I think in the end it has to be your own decision and you just have to go with your gut instinct. So wherever you felt the most comfortable should be where you go!!
Penn also gave me a scholarship which made its pricetag a lot more appealing than the 60-70 grand that Tufts was gonna cost me a year! :)
Good luck with your decision!! And hope to see you at Penn!!

    hey wertheij,

Thanks for the input. I was wondering if you know anything about how competitive students are at Penn? Also, do you have any idea what percentage or how many students actually specialize at Penn? Further, do you how Penn students did on the boards? Once again, thanks.
