Hi everyone,

Thank you again to all who have made comments in my previous posts!

For those of you who go to UPENN or are going to go to UPENN, I have some questions for ya! Some people are telling me that UPENN is a LOT more academically challenging than other schools? That is, a student might not do as well in UPENN as in other dental schools. Any input? Also, do you work right through the summers at UPENN during the 4 years? Any other info would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hey Carmen,
Penn does emphasize reasearch a lot more than other schools, so In that respect it could be harder. PEnn tries to maintain an equal balance between clinical and research, so their students are well rouned in both fields. IF you are more inclined towards one specialty or field, Penn ghelps you get extra expericene in that area through electives you can take after your first year. I know we get the summer off after first year, but I dont know about the other years. I am sure you could check on Penns website, as they would hae a calander.

CarmenO:

First of all, you need to understand that the dental education, no matter where you go, will be extremely hard. PENN is a great school to go, because they have a system that works. That can be seen by their board scores and specialty rates. However, class competition is eminent in all schools. The students I have spoken to, all have illustrated that the classwork is demanding (duh!) but it is VERY VERY manageable.

PENN listens to their students and they move exams depending upon student's preference. Also, unlike other schools that have a block system PENN does not have a "finals week" per se. So you will never have to prepare for 15 finals in a period of one week, but at the most 2-3 exams per week (usually only one exam is given a week). So that gives you time to study, rather than cram.

So all in all, I believe PENN has taken proper measures to assure that their students are taken care of. It would really suck to go to a school where your peers are not as competitive, but the administration is lagging and you have 4 exams in one day. Think about it that way, eh?

Compare the correspondence you received from other schools, do they match the organization and attentive nature as they do at PENN.

NO WAY!!
