Hi!

I was wondering what classes and/or instructors people that have gone to upenn recommend.

I am not necessarily looking to take science classes. I am ready for a humanities breather (film, english, health and societies, etc)-any recommendations?

Thanks! 🙂

depends, do you want good classes?
or do you want good grades ?

let me know, i can give you teachers and classes for both.

haha, well i really want good classes but i most definitely NEED to get good grades..
please give me some advice. thanks🙂

SARS you get a B for enrolling in any of the classes in the department. You get an A if you are breathing. Or just ask a wharton kid what classes they are taking. They are all easy, if they say they are hard they are lying.

After taking hard sciences, a lot of wharton classes are actually quite easy. I'm thinking any basic course from the stat dep't; the healthcare mgmt classes which are basic concepts of how the industry works and are just memorization type exams; insurance 205 [which i think is the basic risk mgmt class]--its really obvious stuff like decision trees and isn't a lot of work day to day.

yeah...but i've heard it's pretty hard to breathe w/ SARS 😉

anyway, i think that you'll end up doing @ least pretty well in any class you enjoy a lot, so don't be afraid of classes that might have a reputation of being 'challenging' or whatev. my favorite class ever ever is cognitive neuroscience (psych 149/bbb 249). it's sciencey and does require a bit of work, but i think it prob taught me more useful stuff for practicing medicine than did all the other classes i've taken, combined. i know epstein is teaching it next sem and don't get me wrong, he's prob one of my top 5 favorite ppl in life, but i took it with thompson-schill and i couldn't imagine anyone doing a better job of teaching that course than she did. plus, she offers her students lots of (really cool) opportunities to attend neurology case conferences, psych colloquia, etc. and if you're worried abt your grades, there are good opp's for bonus pts too!
if u take that and end up liking it, and you're really interested in the research aspects of cog neuro (read: really interested=willing to devote an extraordinary amt of time to this class in order to understand what you're doing), then i also recommend research experience in cog neuro (psych 349) w/ epstein. it taught me a whole bunch of useful stuff for the research i'm doing now and made me switch to dr. epstein's lab 🙂 .
i also liked animal behavior (bio 231) a whole lot b/c seyfarth and cheney are like 2 of the most interesting ppl i've ever met. plus, that class is pretty easy and the reading assignments (original field research articles) are really cool, in my opinion.
i'm gonna take greek mythology (i think clst 200) this sem, and it's supposed to be really interesting w/ a great prof aaaand it got a really easy penn course review rating so it should help your grade too...yeah watch me screw it up now that i said that. 🙄 anyway, i can't really recommend it since i haven't taken it yet, but if u take it, do let me know b/c i don't know anyone else who is!
