So am I the only one that got an email from the admissions office that Dean Curtiss had passed away? Does anyone know what happened?

i got that email too. dont really know what to think of it. He seemed like a really nice guy when I had my 10 min interview wiht him at the end. I interviewed with the lady taking over his position too.

Dean Curtiss was the nicest, most encouraging person I encountered during this process. He will be missed by many - I know he was well loved at the school.

He *was* fantastic. I was quite upset yesterday when I got the email. Felt silly for feeling upset, but even though I had only met him once for half an hour and had only been corresponding with him for a few months, I had the impression that he was a really good man. He was the only person I saw who became personally involved and interested in the students during this whole admissions process. He believed in me, pushed for me to get a scholarship, and I'm sure he did the same for many other people.

Yeah, I'm on the waitlist and got the email. I also have my 15 minute interview with him and found him to be one of the most friendly, encouraging, compassionate people that I've met going while through this process. He will be missed.

I gotta say that my meeting with him was super weird. He seemed grumpy and really hard to read. He told me that "if I don't hear back BEFORE the END of the month, THEN contact him" to which I was like, ok, I'll contact him if I don't hear anything by then. But then he would look at me like I didn't understand and during the fifteen minutes I met with him he had repeated this sentence four times that by then I thought that maybe I didn't understand and that this was some sort of secret code. This was only a few weeks ago so now looking back at it he was probably grumpy about being sick.

Call me biased or what-not. He's only nice if you get accepted, if you don't, he's just another dean of admissions. Too bad I will never get another chance to see him.

The woman replacing him is a nephrologist and was already the associate dean of admissions. I interviewed with her and she was very friendly and personable.

I believe the email stated it was Dr. Beth Piraino. Maybe I read it wrong and shes just taking over his position temporarily for this cycle. In any case, shes the one in charge now I guess.
