Hi...anyone else on this list with me?? Does anyone know people who have gotten off this list??
I really hope that I find out about all these waitlists BEFORE the first week of classes!! 😀

I've noticed that Upstate threads dont get much love, but thought I'd try!

Thanks much!

Hey,

Ive heard that the upstate high priority list has been exhausted every single year in the past expect for last year (and that was because of all the AMCAS screw ups), so you have a pretty good chance of hearing from them. Unfortunately its always a last minute thing. Good luck!! Hope to see you there next fall.

when did you find out about being on the HP WL?

i got in 2 years ago off the HP list at the around the end of may early june so not everyone gets in last minute

I didn't get rejected!!!!!

Upstate was my second choice school, just got the HP list today. I hope they take me off if my #1 choice doesn't take me off their hold.

Geldrop...it's nice not be rejected, but still frustrating to be on a WL! Ive heard good things about the HP list, so here's hoping for both of our sakes! Let me know the SECOND you get off the HP list!!! Good luck!!

If you guys don't mind, I am just curious what your stats are?

Thanks,
BDF

So do you guys know if the same holds true for the Downstate HP list?

wishful thinking...
:O)

my stats 35/3.7/top 25 school

... hi I just found this website and it's definately good to know that I'm not alone... I'm on 3 waitlists- one of which is Upstate (HP) leaving alot of room for uncertainty... But hang in there and I think all will be well....

So does anyone know if the list has started moving yet?? The letter I got said I can call after June 1 to find out my status...I wonder if they'll tell you where you are on the List???
Hmmmm....gettin nervous now.....crap.

Anyway, keep updating with any new info, folks!! Thanks!!!

Spin😀 😀

I interviewed on April 23rd and Jennifer Welch said that there is no way to find out where you are on the list. The admissions committee should be meeting for the last time today. She also said that the HP list should start moving end of May or early June. I'm nervous also. My file should be reviewed today by the adcom, so I'm really hoping for a call or HP list letter by early next week. 😱 Good luck!

So, if we cant find out where we are on the list...I wonder what they'll tell me when I call on June 1st to ask about my status, like they said I could!!! If they tell me, "Oh you are an the HP list" I may have a melt-down 😉

Thanks for the info, Trizi!!

Last Years HPA List Forum <-- should give us some insight. It appears as though people started getting pulled off the list around 5/20 last year. The June 2nd phone call will give us info on how list is moving. Last year those June calls were met with adjectives such as "Kinda Slow" and later "Very Slow."

Thanks you rule. Looks promising, you sure only about 65 or so people on the HP list??

Anyhow, of all the schools that I interviewed at Upstate had by far the best interviewers and nice staff. If they let me in I am going to visit those interviewers and thank them personally. Only thing that bothers me is the fact that its not on the top 25 list. But hey if they want me I will go with them and they will have a good student.

Thanks for the info and the link, medworks!

I read the blurb about 2nd visit day...were there really only 75 people there?? It seemed like more to me...I dunno.

Anyway, how I read it was "...2nd visit day brought back 75 accepted applicants"....then my own extrapolation is 'Out of the 100+ that attended' Does that make sense?

Well the other info bodes well....if they have given out 218 acceptances and last yr gave out 350 (which I heard last yr was the smallest number of acceptance they have doled out in a while) they should still be giving out at least 100 more acceptances between the date of that report and August, right?!?!?! AND if they are only 60 people on the HP list....then why dont they just give us all acceptances now 😉 Geez. that makes sense to me

Ok...just trying to make myself feel better...as I am also a member of the NAY club.

Thanks for all of the info. guys! The fact that they anticipate sending out around 350 acceptances and have only sent out 218 as of whenever Dr. Keating submitted that data makes me a little less nervous. I found out about a week and a half ago that I was placed on the High Priority list, so I am waiting anxiously for a phone call too. The wait is killing me now. I don't know how all of you who have been waiting since January or February have stayed sane all this time. I guess interviewing on the last day wasn't so bad in the long run. Good luck!

I'm also in the HP club. 🙁

Lots of good info here. 🙂 Sounds like the odds of up-grading my HP club membership into an accept club membership is a distinct possibility.

Hang in there guys!!! Pray to god... Only god knows what your fate is. Hopefully, you guys will be accepted and be my classmates.. So, i will give you a pre-congratulations. for the upcoming acceptance.

Thanks dude. Here's hoping....and praying 🙂

Yeah, I guess there were probably around 75...I guess at lunch there seemed like a lot more people, but it was probably all the current students that made me thing there were more!
thinking back to when we were all in the lecture hall, 75-ish seems right.

In that case...what's up with the report saying that 75 acceptees attended!?!?! Yeah, medworks, i will go with you on that one and say all the HP people will get it....eventually 🙂

Anyway, so since the committee is done mtg and the list is ranked already, does anyone think that sending add'tnl info will help bump us up on the list?? Just wondering how effective my letter writing/supplemental info campaign will be...although I think I sent most stuff in before the last committee mtg.

Why can't they tell you where you are on the waitlist. I don't see the big deal. Schools ask us where they stand on our list of schools, "If we accepted you would you go here?" blah blah blah...

bump!!
I just called the admissions office today...and they said that there won't be any movement until after june 1, so everyone, just relax until the 1st, no need to call them now...hehe

Thanks Jolu...after June 1, huh? Is that because they give acceptees until June 1 to decline?? I guess it makes sense....Oh well...another week of waiting wont kill me....I guess +pity+

That is the funniest little icon you put there...

yeah, I thought I'd try something different   you know, to shake it up a bit 😉

If you give me $1million, i will decline my acceptance. All major credit cards, cash, cash and cash accepted. 😉

Hang in there guys.....upstate is excellentaa.

That's a good idea, phar. I'll also give up my acceptance for $1 million.

Hang in there everyone. I was on the high priority alternate list last year. After a long, stressful summer (0 acceptances and 2 waitlists), I was accepted in mid-August, but decided to defer for a year.

Good luck - especially to you, Trizi!

Hi
I'm on the "Hold by Committee" wait list at
Upstate (the second/lower priority)

Do I have any chance at all ?

Stats: LeMoyne 2002 Grad in Biology 3.50GPA
MCATS: 10V, 8B, 8P
Interview went well

I think you'll have to wait till the High Priority List starts moving in order to answer your question. If the list moves fast, then I would say your chances are good. If the HP list moves slow throughout the summer, then the chances of being taken off of the hold list are probably not so good. Last year, they didn't exhaust the High Priority List, and so no applicants on the Hold list were accepted.

Hope for the best!

let me do the bumping job 🙂

1 day and then the weekend and then 2 days of fun and then monday we can all call.

PS Anyone know if they have been calling people off the waitlists or are they waiting until June 1st?

Anyone know what kind of information they will be giving out to us on June 1st? Ideally I'd like to know what position I am at on the HP list, and how fast its moving comparativly to last year.

All they are going to tell you is that you are on the high priority list. They may or may not give you an indication of how the list is moving as compared to last year. I really don't think you should even bother calling. It's going to be a waste of a call.

They should set up a website that you can enter in your AMCAS ID and it will spit out a bunch of statistics on the waitlist, position your in the rate of list penetration etc. Save them a lot of hassle, and be nice for us.

Ask three things:

1. your status (if you want).
2. how big the list is this year (not your position, since they won't tell you). Try to get them to answer by asking: is it more than 100? less than 50?
^ that's important for the 218 acceptance vs. 350 thing .
3. how the list is moving relative to last year.

Try to pressure them, into an answer by asking is it more than 100? less than 50?
I wouldn't ask that and I don't think it makes sense to call... but that's just me.

I called Upstate about a month ago to confirm an AMCAS problem had been sorted-out and used the opportunity to ask about the waitlist; I asked if they could tell me my spot on the list. They said 'No, can't tell you.'

How do ppl here think their interviews went?
---
Overall I thought mine went well. Both were with staff for some reason. The second one, in particular, I thought was really awesome and I had the feeling I left a good impression. Actually, when I think about it, I'm a bit surprised that I ended-up on the HP list.

...hoping to make use of a few of those clappy-happy faces soon. 🙂

Weird that report is restricted now. I guess they read this forum after all, and are on to us.😀 Jen Welch did mention studentdoctor.net during the interview.😉 I can post the report as an attachment if anyone needs to see it... I don't want to 'break any rules' though , if they don't want us looking at it.

Best of Luck everyone.

Post the report as an attachment so those who weren't
able to see it before...now can.

Much Appreciated

Weird that report is restricted now. I guess they read this forum after all. I can post it myself here as an attachment if anyone needs to see it...
You really have loads of enthusiasum... figuring this out. 🙂 (I didn't even know any such report existed before I read this thread.)

As for you, maybe they put you on the list bc you are from Canada?
It is interesting that jolu is also on the waitlist... but I think that is nothing more than a coincidence. All other things equal, I should be treated pretty much the same as a person that's in-state (only the tuition is higher).

I didn't go to the second visit day... didn't seem necessary. I had a wonderful tour from the medical student that hosted me, when I was there for the interview. Also, my first interviewer gave me a tour (because they just had a few straight forward questions and those were quickly answered).

My MCAT shouldn't be an issue. Only thing I can think of is: I didn't talk enough during the first interview... I'm not skilled at tooting my own horn... and that's something I was thinking during the interview (I remember asking "Do you have any more questions?" Their answer was something like: "The [AMCAS] essay and the few questions I had covered it.")

That's weird. I've never heard of an interviewee asking, "Do you have any more questions?" to their interviewer. If I were interviewing you, I would have been totally put off by this question. It makes it seem like you want to leave the interview because you have some place better to be.

Panacea, do you really think that you were treated equally in the admissions process being that you are an international applicant? I wouldn't be so sure of that if I were you, especially since Upstate is not a private school.

As for calling or not, do whatever floats your boat, but don't expect to get too much out of the call. Oh, and I don't think they care about you showing continued interest by calling. The waitlist is ranked. Chances are you won't even have to give your name when you call because they won't tell you where you are on the list anyway.

I remember being in this situation last year. I called once in late June, and realized afterwards that the call was a big waste of time.

Yes, please post that report as an attachment. I remember seeing, "May, 2003" at the top of the report. Are you certain that the report was submitted on May 20??

That's weird. I've never heard of an interviewee asking, "Do you have any more questions?" to their interviewer. If I were interviewing you, I would have been totally put off by this question.
I'm not sure "Do you have any more questions?" was the exact wording. What I am sure of is: that was the gist of a question I asked. The context of the question was: "I'd like to tell you more about myself" --and I'm sure this is how my interviewer understood it. The fact that my interviewer didn't ask me a lot of questions was a bit unnerving --that is why I asked-- I'd hoped they could direct the conversation more. I know that asking questions as an interviewee is a NO-NO --if they aren't invited-- but I felt the situation was unusual and tried to address what I felt was a problem in the most direct way. I'm sure they were genuinely interested in my current research work (it's applicable to part of their clinical work--we discussed it). I don't think the interviewer was put off by my question.

do you really think that you were treated equally in the admissions process being that you are an international applicant?
I found nothing on the admissions page to suggest they prefer in-state and/or domestic applicants. I'd like to think Upstate is fair-minded and open. If there is an undeclared bias, how would I know? I don't think it is worth thinking about.

BTW - I really like the little cartoon/picture you have. 🙂

hihi! there seem to be a discussion on international students admissions here. I personally think there is a bias towards domestic students even though they say otherwise. Since it costs the school (actually the government in Upstate's case) alot of money to train a doctor, i would they they would be happier to spend it on an american. But then, that's just my thoughts?

Panacea - when did you interview? if you interviewed late, i would say its a good thing that you still made it to the HPL. I interviewed pretty late, i was so glad i made the list because although i thought my interviews went well too, I was expecting either a reject or a normal waitlist.

but anyways...good luck to all of us on the HPL!!!!
