Hi,

I am a second semester senior who is now enrolled in a princeton review prep class
for the MCAT which I will be taking this april. I am currently taking four classes,
and I am debating whether or not to drop my music classs which will require me
to make a music video
-translation it will take up a lot of time!! much needed for studying MCat stuff.
I would not question dropping if it weren't for the fact that I also took three classes
last semester! Will med schools look unfavorably upon my record
if i take three classes (12 credit hours) my entire senior year???

Thanks!!!
😕

i dont think med schools really care about how many classes you've taken when. as long as your a full time student, it's ok. after as the music thing goes... i think you should drop it and study for the mcat. cuz your music video isnt going to get you into med school, it's your mcat scores.

i dont think so . . . i took only 12 credits both semesters my senior year . . . i would have taken less but i had to keep my scholarship . . . and well i made it!

Studying for the MCAT is crucial. My avice...drop the music class. Med schools don't count the number of courses you've taken a semester, as long as you were a full-time student. Just do well on the MCAT. That's what rally matters

i also took 12 credits my last semester, and applied after graduating. nobody ever asked about it on the interview, and frankly, i think that admissions committees have more important things to worry about... like MCAT scores.

Here is something else to think about...
What are your other classes? Could you do without one of them instead? I would try to stay active with music as long as possible. I am glad I spent so much time involved in music and less in science during college. I have not had time to do anything with music during med school, and I really miss it. If you really enjoy it, try to stick with it as long as possible because free time is so much worse in med school. Of course, the MCAT is VERY important, but I think that med schools are also interested in people who excel in more than just the science classes.

Drop the class. You'll need as much time as possible to study and do well on the MCAT... especially since time is running out.

Good Luck. 😀

DROP THE CLASS!!! Your MCAT scores will do much more for your application than a music class will. You DO NOT want to put anything less than full effort into the MCAT...a test you do not want to have to repeat (TRUST ME...I did have to take it twice. NOT fun and expensive!) I did get admitted, however, and will soon be a 4th year medical student.

Good luck.
