Hi,
I just got my MCAT score yesterday and would appreciate any insight into building a realistic school list. I'm a bit at a lost right now. My WARS was 80 and I feel like it's too high...
  1. State/Country of Residence: Born + raised in Puerto Rico - currently working in Boston
  2. Ties to other States/Regions: GA, MA, PR
  3. Year in School: 2018 - but finished coursework this spring
  4. Undergraduate Major(s)/Minor(s): Public Health + Gender Studies
  5. Graduate Degrees (if applicable): N/A
  6. Cumulative GPA: 3.74
  7. Science GPA: around 3.6 (Strong upward trend)
  8. MCAT Score(s): 510 (127/129/127/127)
  9. Research Experience: 3000+ hrs working as a clinical research coordinator in palliative care, 850 hrs on thesis on Latinx women's health, 150 hrs as a research assistant on a transcultural psychiatry lab
  10. Publications/Abstracts/Posters (include how you were credited e.g. First author, second author, etc.): 2 publications (1 co-first author, 1 second author just got accepted) working on one more first-author right now and have multiple posters as first and second author at national conference
  11. Clinical Experience (paid or volunteer): 3000+ hrs working as a clinical research coordinator in palliative care, 70 as a hospital volunteer
  12. Physician Shadowing: 55 (Ob-Gyn, Psychiatry, and Radiation Oncology) wanted some primary care but COVID
  13. Non-Clinical Volunteering: 500 hrs as a sexual health educator/peer counselor, 400 hrs with Red Cross, 60 with Big Brothers Big Sister, 200 hrs teaching/mentoring other URM in STEM
  14. Other Extracurricular Activities: was part of student health advisory board on campus and participated in a play to raise funds for a local NGO
  15. Other jobs: marketing job through college but didn't talk about this in my app, camp counselor at a camp for low-income students
  16. Immediate family members in medicine? (Y/N): N (URM)
  17. Specialty of Interest (if applicable): unclear yet
  18. Interest in Primary Care (Y/N): Y
  19. Interest in Rural Health (Y/N): Not particularly but strong interest in working with underserved
School list: Is it too low yield? Prefer to stay in the East Coast but open to other regions like South and Midwest.
