I posted a thread a chance me thread a while back. I have one W on my transcript, and contrary to what is stated below, I don't really have an upward trend as much as a huge spike and plateau. I didn't get a single A (all Bs) my freshman year and ended with a 3.2. But I did well the next 3 years (with even heavier course loads). Will me not doing so well early on be a red flag to adcoms?

Also, I actually took the new MCAT and got a 524, so I'm not sure why I converted it to the old scale as I did below.

Here is the information from the old post:

School: HYP
Major: Biology, political science (double major)
URM: African American male

Here are my stats...

cGPA: 3.82 (upward trend)
sGPA: 3.73 (upward trend)
MCAT: 42

Pre med ECs:

Research: 2.5 years neuroscience research in same lab (1 publication)
Volunteering:
- Intensive patient support volunteer at hospital: 250 hours
- Worked at clinic in Central America for two spring breaks
- Founded campus tutoring organization: 200+ hours
- Various other volunteering: 100 hours
Shadowing: 80 hours
- Neurosurgery (my current interest): 50 hours
- Cardiology: 20 hours
- Pediatrician: 15

Other ECs:

Club tennis team (2 years)
Student government representative (2 years)
Saxophonist in band (3 years)
School science journal (editor, 3 years)

Other:

EMT certified

How's it looking for the top schools?

Very very good application! Congrats. I would say apply wherever you'd like plus your state schools!

Also this is not the Chances forum so this will probably be moved.

Lol you will probably get in everywhere. As an AA male, your MCAT alone would get you into top schools even if you had almost no ECs lol.

Do you honestly think that having a 3.2 Freshman year will distract an adcom enough that it might impact an 80 LizzyM score application?

Enjoy your cycle and stop stressing too much. If you somehow don't get into numerous medical schools the 3.2 is not the problem.

I'd view the MCAT as a 40 (a 523 is a 39) but as URM with a 78 LizzyM and publication you should apply to all the biggest names

Why didn't you believe those who responded to your WAMC thread last month? Don't let a lack of self confidence bring you down.

Yep, as everyone has mentioned, definitely be confident! There will come many occasions in your career where you must take a leap and confidence is important! You're a star and you deserve it!

All the Top 20 and state schools if you feel like it.

The most difficult thing you may experience is having too many interviews before any decisions come down. Some of the top schools send all the decisions at the end of the cycle which doesn't help. Be prepared for a ton of travel as it looks like everyone is going to want you on their dance card.

You should make a thread next year about which school's had the best interview food because there isnt a school you wont be able to report on. Have fun also being able to walk around saying you turned down a dozen full ride offers from top schools because you can only go to one of them.

Oh, man, share some of the scholarship money you're gonna get with me! Remember the little people.

Hopefully you live in the Northeast right now because that will save a lot of travelling money. Enjoy the cycle and congrats!!
