US Fellowship before US reisidency: for old graduate with home country residency: PROS and CONS

What are the pros and cons of getting into a fellowship program in the USA without having a US residency first?
Anyone having such experience? kindly give some guidance. Thankyou

I know 2 people who have done ID fellowships here in US and then were able to stay on at same institution for 2 years of IM training making them board eligible for both specialties at that point. Reach out to small or rural programs with unfilled fellowships and they may be able to help. Good luck

Can you practice in the US with a fellowship which is not ACGME (which usually is)
