Does anyone know how the "Academic and Residency Director Reputation" ratings are done? US News divides schools into PC and Research, but some schools that appear on both rankings have different values for these two categories... EX: Duke appears as 21 on PC schools with ranks of 3.1 and 3.2 for Academic and Residency reputations, respectively, while on the Research rankings (3rd) they are rated as 4.9 and 5 for reputation scores... hopefully someone more well versed in the ranking system cann help answer this question. I know US News is by no means the end all in ranks, just trying to get a better idea of what schools are good matches for me. Thanks!

i believe that the scores range from 1-5. i guess duke's research score is significantly better than their residency director score. i think usnews is wank however. i'd say if you are coming out of duke and applying for residencies, you should have no problem getting interviews simply based off the name.

but what do i know.

I think these are done using surveys sent to residency application directors . . .

For the primary care schools, they surveys are probably sent to directors of primary care specialty residency programs whereas the research surveys are probably sent to all the other specialtities. . . just a guess. 🙂
