I have the online US news Premium subscription but i can't find any rankings. When i go to grad schools , then medicine, I see two lists. One is for Top Research Institutions (60 schools listed) and Top Primary Care (60 listed).

But i wanted to see something about reputation between all the schools. Or reputation by residency. Is there such a thing on the online US news site?

Thanks!

Im not quite sure that I understand what youre asking but I'll take a stab at it. (sorry if I misunderstood) When they rank for research and primary care they consider all the med schools and just show the 60 best for each ranking. There is a residency director ranking score on the research list (and maybe primary care too... I never looked). You could order the schools by that score to get a residency directors list.

As for the breakdown by residancy (like: best in dermatology etc) I havent seen one although certain schools have certain reputations.

Hope that helps.

Schools' reputation is based on their research rankings according to U.S. News. I don't think you will find more information you are looking for there.

I would follow the Residency Director's score for reputation. Take into account also how the subspecialties are ranked for each academic institution. You can also search for match statistics for each school and see where people matched. This will also give you some insite as to how competative students from that school are. A 100% match for top 3 choices for a school that matches everyone in rural care, not that there is anything wrong with it, is not the same as a school that matches 90% for the top 3 choices in which everyone goes to Ortho, Derm, ENT, Rad, EM, etc. That is how I think some of the rankings are flawed, because they don't take into account the difference in match stats. Any ways, hope this helps.

If you want to know the reputations of the residencies, you can look up the rankings under best hospitals, which is the 'gold standard' for residency program rankings.

No there is no listing of all the schools.

For fun, I combined the two lists, and reordered the list, ranking schools by the residency director score. I didn't go to the trouble to remove duplicates (and there are many), but Im guessing this list includes 80+ schools. This is arguably the most useful aspect of the rankings - but also the most subjective, biased, and error prone with less than a 40% response rate...
for more info on the problems with the us news reports, see http://homepage.mac.com/dsacco/rankings.html and http://www.aamc.org/newsroom/reporter/march04/ratingtherankings.htm and http://www.academicmedicine.org/cgi/content/abstract/76/10/985

but as long as you understand the severe problems/limitations:

The columns are:
residency rank: the rank I assigned based on residency director score alone
rank: the original rank, PC means it was from the primary care list

I had not even heard of Wash U until I ordered the premium USNews rankings. I wonder where it was ranked, say, 10 years ago... I'm assuming that Wash U has low name recognition due to a recent rise in prestige/reputation.

I'm impressed with the score that MSUCOM recieved. If you just consider the reputation score, it's 15th in primary care and 57 overall, damn good. US News rates it the same as Brown, NYU, UofR, CWRU, and Jefferson.

The more I learn about my school, the more proud I am.

If you want info on residencies, click on best hospitals and then select the area of your interest. Note that not all specialties are on the list, but this is what most use for residency rankings.

That is entirely incorrect. The quality of training at a given residency program does not correlate all too well with the reputation of "best hospitals." It does not even correlate with the overall reputation of the given residency program. It is not even close to being the "gold standard" as someone here noted.

When you kids get to be 4th years, you'll see what I mean.
