Has anyone heard from South Alabama lately? I am wondering if I should call or something. I was told verbally I would either be accepted before a certain cutoff date or placed on the top of their alternate list based on previous classes, but this was over a month and a half ago.

I don't see any harm in calling. You need to find out if you are going to be the classmate of lamyers and Bubba, after all...right!?! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

I can't believe there is an entire thread dedicated to USA. :clap: Most people think you're talking about the country when you type that!

If you call them, please let me know what's going on. I called them about 3 weeks ago (I think), and Vanessa told me they'd e-mail alternate letters and then later send out rejections via snail mail. She said they'd do this at the end of the month (March)...
(I'd call, but I don't want to call again b/c she knows me and my voice and will think I'm a freak!)

Still no answer. I am going by financial aid tomorrow, I'll simply "pop" by to say hello and get the scoop! Will let you guys know tomorrow afternoon as soon as I get in! (Again, advantages of a small school...) :D
 
okay, I popped in, and guess what? No one is there! All doors are closed and lights are out! So I went over to financial aid and guess what? You guessed it! It's a conspiracy! The secretary there said that they must all be in the same meeting. Let's hope so!

So, we were thinking that they must be making those huge final cuts along with scholarship decisions, but when I was talking to my dept. head, he said that Mark Scott had told him that final decsions were already made. That was a week or so ago. Oh yeah, the secretary at fin. aid said that they were in that meeting until Friday morning, and that they had been in it all week. Ya think? I'm thinking that letters should be in the mail or else very shortly on the way, within the next week or so. good luck! I hope all of you make it in!
 
Well, I did not get a rejection email which aphrodite said in an earlier post is what they are sending, so maybe I will be in or on an alternate list. Here's to more waiting!
 
That was someone else, I'm not sure how they are sending what. (not to shatter any hopes) :) :)
 
That was me...I wouldn't wager anything on what I said...this was what I was told three and a half weeks ago. They've probably decided to do it some other way...

Bradleyp, please reread what I posted. Vanessa told me they'd e-mail the alternates and send the rejections via snail mail. Like I said, don't take my word for it...this was the word on the street 3 1/2 weeks ago. :)
 
I stand corrected, sorry, just getting a little stressed, i interviewed in October
 
I'll walk over at 11 am right after class. Then, I'll get pretty much right on line to let you know if I got the scoop! (I have two hours to kill before med micro at 1:25.) Anyway, rightwing will be waiting anxiously in class for news, too. Hopefully, Vanessa or Mark Scott will be there...

Everyone who is waiting, let us know if you will be attending USA. Maybe 5 or so of us will have at least communicated in some form before classes begin. Decisions have been made for a while, however, every single day people have been giving up slots left and right so don't despair. Letters have not been made yet, sigh. She will be getting to them soon I guess. She has a stack of crap on her desk. I saw a computer form with names that said "acceptances". What I wouldn't do for a copy! j/k ..no not really! So, I'm sorry to say, but patience is the key. She wouldn't really give an answer when I jokingly asked on when she would have them done, but when she was joking about all the crap she had to do, acceptance letters was in the sentence. I didn't want to push the issue. They were all in a training session all week on a new university wide computer system! Who cares! Oh yeah, they have met once already for scholarships and they will meet again in the future.
 
Once again, thanks lamyers. Do you think they have more people giving up their spots than expected? I guess with application numbers ebing as low as they are this year that would happen. Maybe I will get lucky and get accepted. There is ony so much paxil a man can take, j/k.
 
Bradleyp: I just mailed my withdrawal from South today -- hope you hear something soon! I really liked South, but UAB is SOOOO much closer to my husband. lamyers -- you're still coming to N.O. with me? Right? Ya gotta get to know the Big Easy from a native -- I'll let you know when I'm going!
BTW - my husband LOVES his car - I do too - so thanks for hooking us up with Earnestine... I'll be keeping in touch w/ you about our N.O. adventure. We'll have to go out with my cousin - her divorce is final now and she's also got three kids - you'd like her.

Today I received the info you sent me. Thanks. Although "(Bubba)" was a great addition to the address, I'm gonna PM you my full name for future reference. :D

The aid form also arrived today. They should do phone surveys for this stuff to speed the process along. Seems like only a few check marks are required. I haven't looked it over thoroughly, though.

One Q for you (for now, that is)... I want to get this aid application out today, but I don't know what to put in the "Student Number" field. Do you know what they want? I don't really want to wait til Monday, though it probably won't make a difference.

Student Number: #2 Second only to Lamyers, of course. :D

Thanks, lamyers. I thought that was probably the case, but I put my AAMC ID# in case that is what they wanted (which it looks like they didn't). Communication between USA and I hasn't been the greatest, so... Their pre-interview material didn't arrive until after my interview date and my aid application was lost in the mail the first time they sent it. Just trying to make sure everything runs smoothly on my end.
 
Well, Sharon is back in the office today. I spoke with her for quite a while of Friday. She's really great! It just sucks that everyone says that you can get all the money you need in med school to live on, but the reality is that once you are past the cap (26,200 first year in our case) the rest is private. Private loans gives us a payment in med school! However, Southtrust Bank (one of the banks that loves to host parties for us) will finance med students 100% for cars or homes, with loans as income. I may consider that instead of renting???
 
Talked to the admissions office and they have not made out the waitlist yet. They said they have a few withdrawals and will have it done by the end of the week, so we should have something next week. If you got a hold letter your are still on hold. Good luck.

Lamyers: I forgot all about the parties! :D I really hope not to need more than $26K a year. Compared to what I'm used to living on, that's a ton of money. I don't have dependants, though.

Can't wait for classes to begin, and I'm not even done with undergrad! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I wish I could fall asleep!
 
Rumor has it that letters will be another two weeks. I hope at least then they will come for you guys!

Ok, I don't, but geez this is like pure torture...time to find an avenue to let out my frustration... :wink:

I talked to Mr. Scott a few minutes ago, final decisions are to be made on Monday. He has been out of town for the past two weeks. Good Luck. Anybody accepted lately?
 
So, South is supposed to be mailing today or tomorrow. Just remember, if Vanessa puts them in the mail tomorrow, they might not get out until Monday. So don't get too excited! Just count on Monday to be safe! Good luck!

I was told by Mark Scott last monday 21st thatthey were mailing all letters by Friday. As of yesterday (monday) no letter which means they were not mailed last week or they would have been here since i live like a mile from USA....so I will check today....let me know if you guys get anything

educate the liberals!
 
This waiting is just evil, I tell you! First, they tell me end of March, and now it's going to be May before we hear anything from them. Argh!! :p :)
 
Good luck, everyone. They'll probably revoke my acceptance if I get a D in my P Chem class (which looks likely), so there may be one extra seat. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Yikes! This means I'll get something tomorrow. Okay, now I'm nervous. Every day, I look forward to Mr. Mailman, and now I'm having second thoughts about seeing him tomorrow. I am soo befuddled...do I or do I not want my USA decision?? :rolleyes: :confused:

Well, rightwing, I'm SURE you are at the top of the list! :wink: (rumor has it) Anyway, most years at South, nearly everyone gets in off of the list. As soon as UAB gets its head on straight, the list will move here at South. Anyone else?
 
*sigh*...another alternate here. Did any of you call to find our your position on the list? If so did Mr. Scott tell you over the phone?

OK, I just got word that he'll give you an approximate "feel" for where you stand. So, good luck to everybody. :)

bummer, look guys, don't despair, to stress the point: it's a small school with a small waitlist. In previous years everyone has been getting in off the list. It just sucks that you guys have to wait! Chin up!!!
 
Did anyone call Mark? A friend of mine did and he basically told him where he stood and that he would get in???
