hey everyone,

this post is for ppl who have been invited to interview at sc/accepted at sc.

i was wondering if you guys could post your stats (gpa, mcat scores, extracurricular activities, etc), when you were invited to interview at sc, and whether or not you were ultimately accepted.

i just want to know if i have a chance.

oh, btw, if you guys would rather private message me this info, i would REALLY appreciate that too!

sc is my first choice, and i am very anxious to know if i have a chance of getting an interview.

i am literally driving my crazy just thinking about sc (cuz i know that they are making their pre-interview decisions within the next two weeks).

thanks for any info!!!! (and congrats!!!)

This information is important to me as well. So interviewee/acceptee stats would be very helpful.

GHM just an fyi, I spoke with USC today and they said their last set of invites are going out by next week. So if we don't hear by next week, we can consider ourselves rejected from that school.

hey nray,

thanks for the info. . .although, now i am EVEN more nervous!!!=)

Good luck guys.

gpa: 3.8
mcat: 32
extracurric: lots of volunteer, lab, etc

Interviewed: Late Novemember
Current Status: Waiting...

Hope that helps.

ghm,
Why the obsession with USC? What are your stats and where else have you interviewed?

hey "tastes like burning",

haha. .i guess i am a little obssessed about sc. well, i've only interviewed at two places: NYU and NYMC

my stats are very mediocre:

MCAT: 30
Science GPA: 3.7
Overall GPA: 3.8
Extracurricular: very average stuff: volunteer and a some leadership

i just like sc a lot mainly because of what i hear from ppl. i have a couple friends in at usc med already and they like it a lot. . so they have left a good impression of sc on me.=)

oh. .and i interviewed at einstein. . .but that's it. .

tastes like burning - i like your screen name. did you consider "he tells me to burn things?" :D

well, i really feel the randomness of the whole process every time i log on here.

usc stats are scattered across the board. last year, i read an article in the l.a. times which featured a girl who got into usc with a 23 mcat. that's pretty low, even if the rest of your app is stellar. i think they like to take chances on people who might appear less qualified at first glance but have something they think usc could benefit from. so that could mean they look at the whole applicaiton in great detail.

ghm - i scored slightly higher on the mcat than you did, but you have a better gpa. and i have have the typical clinical volunteering most people have. i do have a lot of research though, which usc really pushed this year. the funny thing is, i got into usc, chicago med and tufts, but am waitlisted at nymc (i just sent my withdrawal letters for all but usc). that just screams randomness if you ask me.

i do wish you the best of luck in getting an interview though - it just doesn't seem fair when i look at stats and see who gets in, and from what i've read from you on sdn, you seem like a really nice person too.

good luck to all of you who are hoping to go to usc. it is my first choice too.

I interviewed in November and am waiting for a response as well...

Out of state
MCAT: 32
GPA: 3.7
Pretty typical extracurrics

lilninja,

thanks! you seem really nice, too. =)

I got a 34 MCAT, 3.85GPA, no volunteer, tons of research.
Interviewed in October.
Still waiting for any response.

37 MCAT, 3.94 GPA
Pretty minimal volunteering, a year of microbio research, and some other stuff.

Interviewed 2/13, accepted 3/1.

MCAT: 31
GPA: 3.5
Volunteer/Work: Out of school for 2 years, job = full-time consulting, er and hospice volunteer

Interviewed 02/08
Accepted 03/11

MCAT: 37
GPA: 3.8

Interviewed middle of December.
Haven't heard anything yet.

What does everyone else think about the "semi-rolling" admissions at USC?

I cannot believe some of the MCAT scores that are being posted on this thread! No wonder I haven't even heard a word from them.

 [/QB]••••I have a 32P and I haven't gotten any love from SC. if I don't get an interview I will wish them a quick death in the NCAA Tourney this weekend.

33Q, 3.94 sci, 3.81 cum, complete since nov. and still no interview invite. i talked to them today and they said all pre-interview decisions should be made by the end of next week, even though their site says early march.

GO BEARS! :D

I don't remember where I read it or where I heard it, (so take what I'm relaying about USC with a grain of salt), but supposedly USC is trying to climb the the US NewsWeek list to become a more recognized and ranked university, since it has the facilities and location to become one.

This means that they're seeking higher MCATs and GPA and research-inclined students. Last year I knew of one studnet that got into USC at my school, and he had a "really high" MCAT and "tons" of research when I asked him about his application.

Obviously, if this is true, it's not all-inclusive and I'm sure they'll admit people who wish to become full-time clinicians and people with less than killer stats.

GO BEARS! :D [/QB]••••Sorry, I have Arizona going to the championship game and then losing to Maryland. My girlfriend is at Cal (1st year PhD), so I have to show love when she's around, or else I get no love.

•••••You know that doesn't mean jack squat :)
I mean, if he has really high mcats and tons of research then OF COURSE he's gonna get into USC and he's prolly gonna get into a TON OF UNIVERSITIES! :)

Accepted 2 1/2 weeks post interview with 30M/3.5, no research, tons of EC's, some volunteer and clinical. My PS was very focused on primary and preventative care. I too have heard that they're trying to move up in the rankings -- don't know what they were thinking when they took me! :D

Obviously one guy is not a good enough sample, but I was using this example to demonstrate that maybe USC is placing more emphasis on high Stats and research as compared to the past.

Hmmm...just following the trend with my stats

MCAT 34Q
GPA 3.6
2 years research undergrad, MS research - 2.5years including summers

Interviewed : Sometime in Nov.
Accepted : Early December

This girl had a 23 MCAT and I think a 2.4 GPA from MIT. She was hispanic and I think she was from a poor family. Therefore, I wouldn't use her numbers to gauge your own by.

The article also mentioned something about her getting a master's degree...and she did her thesis on something regarding the medical school application process and URM's with sub-average stats. Don't flame me...this is the truth. Take care.

It's wrong information like this that allows rumors about URMs getting into medical school with pathetic stats to become pervasive. I care specifically about this because I don't want my classmates to assume that I have anything near such a pathetic GPA because I'm Latino.

The article states that she had a "B" average from MIT in chemical engineering. She also DID NOT gain admission with these numbers, especially because she didn't do well on the MCAT.

Funny how people don't mention that she got a Masters at Fresno State and averaged a 3.7gpa. It's only then that she gained admission to USC. They never mentioned her exact MCAT scores though, but it was the main problem since it was stated that it was relatively low.

Actually, I would be impressed with a student that managed a "B" average from MIT in chemical engineering while picking grapes during the summer to help her family. The article also mentions she was the president of varous organizations at MIT.

Welcome to SDN Chad!! (i got to him first SMW. neener neener... :p )

I am also astounded by the stats some of you guys are putting up. I thought USC was definitely a school that I had a shot at based on last years numbers, but forget that. The fact they are revamping their program and received the Keck funding, it makes sense that they are looking for students with higher numbers. USC is definitely on the move up. It's a big bummer that this is obviously gonna affect my chances of getting in this year.

Nray, actually I wouldn't worry yet... I think all the people getting in now are the ones with the stellar stats (36+ MCAT, 3.9+ GPA) and the ones who will ultimately reject the acceptance and go to a higher ranked school. USC accepts 300 or so out of 500 interviewees, so those with lower scores probably get accepted later on (like late April or May). I also bet USC has tons of movement on their waitlist.

So I would highly recommend applying to USC... people complain about its high tuition, but it is normal compared to other private schools. It is just that the UCs are such a great deal... but they are also a pain in the ass to get into. Good luck!

But I still say that, generally speaking, you have good numbers, hardly "medicore"... Have some pride

Caveman, thanks for helping out!! :D

Hey guys, as I said before, I was accepted with a 30M/3.5 so out of sight stats aren't necessarily what they're looking for.

Welcome to SDN SMW!!!jk

Hey...this is the first I've heard of your USC acceptance. So allow me a belated Congratulations! Are you pretty set on SC or still holding some other eggs? Take care.

C'mon, USC - what's holding you?!

They first said the pre-interview decisions would be made by early March, then by the early part of this week. But still nuttin'. I hope they know that I have my bags all packed up and ready to fly to LA anytime ...

I've been accepted at Columbia, so probably will be withdrawing from USC.

gosh . .usc sure takes their time! i've checked my email so many times this week. . .!

i really hope that we all get invited to interview!=). . .i mean. .we all deserve it for waiting so patiently and so long

Common' SMW, withdrawl your acceptance soon. Let some of us poor schmucks with no acceptances get that tingly feeling inside when we get that big envelope (at least I am assuming it is a big envelope).
