i know that rad onc is growing more competitive, but is it quite at the level of, say, ophtho, neurosurg, etc? what board scores do we need to be competitive applicants? will decent research overcome the numbers game?

also, what fourth year electives do you recommend for someone interested in applying to rad onc?

Its hard to compare one field to another since there are different number of slots for each. However there was only one unmatched rad onc slot last year and a couple for neuro; that's not to say they we'rent gobbled right up. Optho is competitive but Id say its harder to get rad onc.
Board scores tend to be 220 at least but yes good research will make you more interesting with a 220 than a 245 without reseach (to many).

Do rad onc electives, and any in radiology, neurology, ent, neurosurg, med onc., BMT. GU, obs gyn, whatever interests you. it all plays a role here.
