Thoughts on this? Any data out there showing that students are better prepared for Step 1 at the end of 3rd year? I'm considering taking the test in January during rotations or push it back til after 3rd year and take step 1 and 2 together.

Following. Imho taking step 1 and 2 together is a bad idea, but taking step 1 in the middle of 3rd year might actually work out nicely. It would help to have last rotation before Christmas brake an easier one with shorter outpatient office hours. The stuff we'll see and learn during 3rd year is useful and might help a bit, but not overly so.
