Does anyone know when unconditionally accepted students at USUHS (branch is USAF) can expect to receive commissioning papers? How much time is there before they have to be signed?

Also, how does the May 15th medical school decision deadline work at USUHS in terms of signing the contract?

Thanks!

I can't answer most of your questions, but commisioning papers and acceptance status seem to be independent. I still have yet to receive my unconditional acceptance from USUHS, but the Army graciously decided to send me my commisioning papers to sign and bind myself to them for the rest of my life...... 😱

I am about to contact USUHS and ask them these exact quesions, so I will let you all know when I get an answer.

For specific questions regarding commission timelines, you should contact:
Mr. Norman Mitchell
Commissioning Coordinator
(M-F, 0600-1400)

How does this work? I mean I'll call someday if it actually applies to me, but if anyone can answer now...

I'm hoping to go from Active Duty Captain to 2Lt. Does someone have to readminister the commissioning oath? I could get that done here on base before I leave if that's what they want, but I'd rather do it enroute or at school.

I came here as a Reserve O3, and had my 2LT oath readministered in June after getting new appointment papers following my acceptance of my acceptance; I then got orders assigning me to active duty at USUHS. A friend of mine, an AD O3, signed his new 2LT oath the first morning of orientation. He said the date on his DD-214 was the day prior, so that there was no break in service. Were both Army, but that may not make a difference.

So here is what I found out,
Once you are DODMERB qualified and security cleared, you get an unconditional acceptence. Then the admissions office gives your name to Norman Mitchell, who in turn gives your name to the branch of service point of contact, who then cuts your orders. The admissions office said that it would take about 2 weeks for my orders to arrive once I got my acceptance. I have been contacting all the people in this chain just to make sure that everything happens ASAP, so I can get everything signed prior to the May 15th deadline when I have to forsake all other options.

My USUHS sponser told me that sometimes you have to stay on these people if you want things done in a timely fashion, so that is what I have done. It seems to be a very cumbersome administrative process, with every aspect compartmentalized, so I just keep checking in to make sure that nothing has been lost.

Ah, I see. The difference between how you did it and how your friend did it is interesting. It could make several thousand bucks difference, of course, so I'd as soon do it as late as possible.

Here's hoping I have to worry about it! Just a week or so away from getting started on app process again. 😀
