I have a had rt ACL reconstructive surgery twice, but my knee has no limitations. Does any that has had the USUHS experience please tell me if I will be able to get a waiver or not.

check out this site from USUHS.

Musculoskeletal Systems
The following are disqualifying:
? History of surgery to a major joint within six months
? Anterior cruciate/posterior cruciate ligament with or without repair
(comprehensive evaluation required if repaired at least 10 months prior
to DODMERB examination)

there's more, but that's what seems to apply to you. anyway, it also says on that page:

WAIVERS
Some medical requirements can be waived for applicants who are otherwise
highly qualified. If you are notified by DODMERB that you have a disqualifying
defect but you would like us to consider your application further, you may
request a waiver of the disqualifying defect by writing to the Admissions Office.
If your records indicate that you are a competitive applicant, the Admissions
Office will request DODMERB to prepare a waiver request package. You may be
asked by DODMERB to provide amplifying information on the condition in
question or to submit a more comprehensive evaluation by a medical specialist.
If DODMERB is unable to make a determination, your entire medical record
may then be forwarded to the various military services? waiver authorities for an
independent review and recommendation. That recommendation will then be
forwarded to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) for granting or
rejection of the waiver. Staff members in the Admissions Office, as always, are
available to assist you with administrative processing of your physical examination
(and waiver process, if necessary).

summary (as i understand it): as long as you are functional now and there's no other reason for them to not accept you, i'd say you have a good shot....good luck if you apply! 🙂

Thanks a lot! I needed to here that. USUHS is my top choice!

Just a note--

I was disqualified, and applied for a waiver. The waiver was denied. At this point it seemed pretty hopeless, but I went and got a civvy exam for the condition they had a fit about, and USUHS resubmitted my case to DoDMERB with the new info. Finally, a year later, I'm medically cleared. I think the fact that they kinda really wanted me had something to do with the fact that I eventually made it, but being a squeaky wheel really helped me out. Even if they tell you your waiver is denied and you haven't got any recourse... c'mon, it's the military. It's all about special pleading and finding loopholes.

the sooner you realize that the sooner you'll be able to function. (I'm kidding... kinda)

Take care! Alli
