UT at Houston

I'm an MSIII at LSU interested in doing IM at Houston. I was wondering how competitive the program at UT Houston is. Do you need high step scores or do people with passing step scores still have a shot? I was also wondering about fellowship placement coming out of UT Houston (primarily in cards). I've read that fellowship placement outside of Houston can be kind of tough, but how is placement if you want to stay in Houston? And lastly, if I wanted to increase my chances of getting in there, is there a particular away rotation I should sign up for (ie do any attendings in particular carry a lot of clout as far as resident selection goes).
