I just recently got accepted into dental school, but have gotten paranoid about the criminal background policy. On the school website it says that accepted students must release their criminal background report and in some rare cases drug screens. I recently had a surgery to remove my wisdom teeth and have been prescribed some fairly strong drugs, like valium and was worried that this might show up on a drug test. I also drink kava-kava tea pretty regularly, and have heard in in some circumstances that it can cause some false positives on screens. I've never really heard of a school drug testing matriculating students, but if they do would it be when class starts or can they test you earlier before class starts on the 11th of august. Sorry, i'm just really paranoid about it and do not want to get in trouble for something this minuscule. If anybody can shed some light about how they were matriculated for UTSD houston dental school, I would highly appreciate it.

They prescribed you valium for a tooth extraction? Seems fishy.

Maybe you should stop taking valium and drinking kava tea for a couple weeks before you need to get tested. Doesn't seem that hard to figure that out.

wow, I don't need your snarky remarks. I also do not need your judgement, I think my question for concern is legitimate. I was also prescribed the valium derivative so its legal, and as for the kava tea, I bought it at HEB. I've just read that it may cause false positives. All i wanted to know was if it was normal for schools to drug test students prior to the start of class?

You've got anxiety, that's understandable. But, like most sources of anxiety, this is not a cause for concern.
