Hi all that are attending UT-Memphis this Fall!

Where are you living (dorms vs apartments, etc). Does anyone know anything about the medical fraternity?

How early before Orientation are you going to move down?

Congratulations on your acceptances!

jst,
congrats. I'll probably be applying to UT Mem, this Summer. I'm currently living in Memphis right now...I have several friends at UTM right now. I'm sure I know less about the school than you, but let me know if I can answer any questions...

I'll be there. I am thinking about deferring for a year to finish up my undergrad though. I applied after only three years. I didn't really expect to get in. I have one more semester to go here at Clemson U. I still haven't quite made up my mind what I'm going to do. Where are you all from? I'm from Dunlap, just north of Chattanooga.

Congrats on your acceptances, I will be starting this fall at UT memphis.

I'm starting in the fall, and I'm from Memphis so I don't have to do much moving. I already live downtown at the Echelon at the Ballpark (my apt is just over the centerfield wall of Autozone Park). It's less than a mile from UT, and they are putting in a trolley line that runs from downtown thru the hospital district- therefore no driving to school!!!! It is close enough to ride a bike if I had one.

see ya in august

Can anyone tell me much about memphis? i have only been through there once but it seemed kind of...dirty. Compare to Knoxville if you've been there.

The area where the med school is located is pretty dirty and bland, but that is expected considering the part of town and type of people who inhabit the area. However, there are 3 hospitals within about 3 blocks from the school, so you are always close to the action. Also, there is a lot of construction going on, and I expect things will continue to improve. It is nothing like Knoxvegas- more urban and diversified, however I was never too impressed with the UT area in K-ville that much anyway. Also, you're not going to get much level 1 trauma or high-risk pregnancies like you will in wonderful Memphis...we have 1000s of idiots who really need some help!!!!!!!!! 😉

I am also excited to be attending UT-M this fall. I'll be moving into my apt. on Mud Island around the first of August, which is a few miles from campus.

I don't know a whole lot about the city apart from what I gathered on my interview and one recent visit. From my experience I can see reason for the "dirty" description, but so far as that provides for quality clinical experience in years 3 & 4, I'm all for it. Plus, what fun would it be to live in some antiseptic city/town. I'm not doing much of anything this summer, so I'm definitely ready to get down there and get going (I'm from Nashville by the way). I'm hoping that, in addition to the rigors of 1st year, we can have some fun in that atmosphere.

Looking forward to meeting you guys in August.

Matt
