Anyone know the turn around time from application completion to interview invite for Utah? I hope I get one...their secondary was by far the worst of all schools. Thanks a lot.

I know if you are a Utah resident the turn around time is very fast, like last year I only waited a week or so from time of completion but for out of state applications I know they are very picky. And I agree their secondary app sucks I just finished mine yesterday

My friend (resident) turned in her secondary on a Wednesday, got the interview offer on the following Tuesday and was told: "Choose three dates within the next 2 weeks that you're available." Yikes. That's fast. I'm scared to turn in my secondary because I haven't gone shopping for my suit yet. 🙂

Hey guys,
My app was complete on Wednesday, and I just got the invite for an interview by email today.
I am also an out of state applicant (not Idaho), if that helps any...

Good luck to you all!!! 😀

Are you a phenominal applicant by chance or closer to my numbers...curious how they work their interviews...it seems that if you meet the above average in 5 out of the 8 criteria you get an interview but I dont know. Thanks for the reply.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who completed that secondary. I'm an OOS applicant and figured I go for it since there were hardly any applicants at Utah. I see why now. Not only are their requirements stiff, but that secondary is redunkulous. I had everything complete, but just couldn't muscle up the energy for another PS. Essay on certain subject matter are fine, but a completely new PS is overkill. I wish you all the best.

Just so ya all know, Utah doesn't even consider your app unless one of the following is true:
1. you're a resident of Utah
2. you're an Idaho resident
3. you have significant ties to Utah
4. you're applying to the MD/PhD program
5. you're specifically recognized as a member of a population group underrepresented in the physician workforce. (Africans and African Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Polynesians including Native Hawaiians, Tongans, Samoans, Filipinos, Tahitians, Maoris, Fijians, Niueans, Palauans; Chicanos/as and Latinos/as including Mainland Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans, Central Americans, and South Americans.

So good luck! :luck:

Here there,
You're right. You need to pass their gpa/mcat minimums, and have above ave. in 5 out of 8 of their criteria. Let's see: your grades are higher than mine, but my mcat is slightly higher than yours (a toss-up there)
I am also an older applicant and went to grad school, so I've done just about everything there is; research, clinical experience, etc. I was born and lived in utah until the age of 5, and all of my extended family still live out in SLC.

I am also a reapplicant: I was an alternate last year, so that might explain why I was called back quickly. I'm also female, and utah has one of the lower percentages of female matriculation in the country. Not saying that means anything, but it could be a factor...Anyway, hope that helps!

btw: saw from your profile that you're a WWAMI. I just had my UW interview last week. Is this your first interview with them? Good luck to you on that too! 😀

Are you sure about March? I've heard that acceptances can come a lot sooner, especially if you're out of state.

Hey thanks for the reply...that does help in figuring where I stand. Yes it is my first interview with Washington...I am excited about that. I met all 8 criteria but its a toss up on the GPA MCAT ones to make it so Im above average on 5 of the 8. I need one or the other to do so. I hope to interview there. I love the area and would like to go back. Best of luck to you in your applications.

BTW: What did you think of Washington?

I have heard a few in December but most are in April. I dunno. April would sure suck though.

OOS applicants do hear a lot sooner than IS applicants.

Well, I will keep my fingers crossed for you at Utah and at UW!
I love SLC (doesn't hurt that I like snow...) and the U just built a brand-spankin' new building for the students.
UW is hands down my #1 choice. I absolutely love the school and honestly, the 3 on 1 panel interview isn't as nerve wracking as it sounds!
Well, let me know if I can answer any other q's for you. This is actually my 3rd time around at UW (wait-listed the last two years) so I think I've had just about everyone on the interview committee by now... 😉

I think it depends...
Last year, I wasn't notified about being an OOS alternate at Utah until Mid-April.
Perhaps wait-listed ppl get notified later than acceptances? 🙂
I think I heard that Idaho ppl hear back sooner...

Im pretty sure, cosidering that was what the dean told the interviewees that day, they've gotten alot of grief for waiting so long to let people know from students who reported them to the news and stuff. they create a big pool than they choose. Only a few are accepted earlier in the cycle. they are non rollin too.
