Hey all, really could use some fresh eyes on this situation. A little about me, I'm leaning towards surgical subspecialties at this time, particularly plastics.

UTSW:

Pros
- Free!
- dual enrolled in MPH, which I have scholarships to cover costs
- newer facilities
- grew up in TX, friends/nuclear family nearby
- already selected an apartment, pet friendly (have cat)

Cons
- not as well ranked relative to Pitt
- not sure I want to stay in TX long term
- competitive culture?

Pitt:

Pros
- Father's alma mater, so sentimental value
- near extended family
- excellent reputation in surgery/research
- ranked higher

Cons
- $85k/year estimated CoA
- never lived in cold weather
- most housing is not pet friendly when I last looked

TL;DR Father is a Pitt grad, but UTSW is free... help!

UTSW 100%

85k a year for Pitt over a free education at UTSW is not worth it at all, even in the long run. Pitt won’t give you any sort of significant edge over UTSW when it’s comes to the match, maybe regionally but even then.

UTSW is a powerhouse, it’s free and you’ll get a funded MPH.

You’re also near family.
