Hey all...
I just got my August MCAT score. To my dispair, it was lower than my last year's. No idea how it happened because I was hitting pretty good numbers in my practice exams. Embarassing to tell, but I cried for hours. After all that studying, I scored the worst I've ever done. Never even imagined this kind of number. Also, I applied last year, got waitlisted, didn't get off the waitlist, took the August MCAT this year and I am reapplying now; feels like I completely killed the second chance... Anyways, apologize for the long, depressing intro.

Now I need to start conjure up a plan B since I expect to get dozens of rejection letters fairly promptly (sigh)... Should I change my mailing address to one of my friends'???? Not sure how my parents will feel. They've been excited about the August MCAT. Maybe I should've never told them that I am even applying to med school in the first place...

Anyone know something about a Post-bac program where you take a year of premed or med school work and take the MCAT at the end and go to med school afterwards? I heard this much but want to get to know more about it (going to google about it now too).

Any other useful information to someone in my situation? I have 3.8 GPA and the MCAT in 20's...

I really appreciate your help. Thanks guys.

You might not want to hear this, but................

wait until April and take it again (not my recommendation)
or
Get ready to go DO.

What about your essays and extracurriculars? Are they really good? I still have faith in the power of an outstanding essay and some unique ECs. But maybe I'm naive...

I'm sorry that you weren't able to up your score this time.

Could you be more specific about your MCAT score? I mean "20's" is not a very good information for us to give you an advice.

I think if your score is in high 20's, that is around or above 27, you should just your hopes up. If it's around mid 20's, why not consider carribean med schools or DO schools? Some of the people have posted here that DO or carribean schools are not all that bad as we think. I mean they seem to get you fine residency matches.

Your GPA seems good depending on your actual MCAT score, you may not have to wait another whole year. Also, why would you even do post-bac if your GPA is good?

Good luck! :luck:

i say go for D.O. if you're not happy with that, then buckle down for another round in April 2006, and do the Examkrackers complete study package.
This is perfect advice (especially the Examkrackers part).

If it's high 20s, then you've still got a chance, so don't worry. If not, then just give it one more shot.

**** I'll even sponser the OP with my own set of audioosmosis cds that i wasn't able to sell.
Interesting brand name. Do the instructions include "insert head into bucket of water?"

Man, that joke was quite a miss, wasn't it? 🙁

I was referring to "audioosmosis." Hadn't heard of it before.

yeah, you're fine if you're in the upper 20s, especially with your 3.8 GPA! i got a 28 and am doing much better than i could have imagined! if the rest of your app is golden, then your MCAT will look just fine! the 3.8 shows that you have a brain, even if you don't think your "below 30" MCAT does! 😛

Don't really have much advice to give except, "Be encouraged and don't give up!" I remember when I was studying for the April 04 MCAT and a week before the test I realized I didn't feel so confident about it and decided not to take it. I took some time to regroup and began studying again for the August test and was pretty happy I waited. If you don't want to go to a DO school then don't. What's the rush? Take some time to get yourself together and take the test again and you better study real hard.

Good luck to you, either way. It sucks when things don't work out the way you want them to, but you do have more options - it's not over!
