How can you tell tha action was taken on your application. Where do you find the 'status page'?

http://rainier.dom.washington.edu/admiss/uwapp.htmlx. Here's the link. Your password is the the first two letters of your last name and the last 7 digits of your s.s.#. If your app is in a holding pattern, it will state "your application is complete." If for better or worse you have been rescued (?) from the competitive pool, your status page will read "action has been taken..." I'm paraphrasing here. I have never seen these words with my own eyes.

Since when have you been in the dreaded pool?

Since the very beginning. I was told I was the first person to interview this season.

WOW! CONGRATS!!! I hope you didn't mind the last 5 months of torture...but it sounds like it was all worth it. Is the Dub your first choice?

I applied to both - but I've been in the competitive pool since forever ago. I got waitlisted for MD/PhD

Just to get everyone's mind off this whole dreaded process for a second...who's watchin' the b-ball game tomorrow against AZ? Better yet, anyone going?

Score Predictions (Closest to the actual score gets rescued from the pool on monday and a full scholarship)

UW 77 : AZ 71

Well Dr. Gonzo, it looks like we're the only husky b-ball fans on here. Your guess was actually pretty dang close. So I guess you win the seat and the scholarship. I'll inform Dr. Samson immediately and let him know what was promised. Hopefully, he'll agree to the terms. Maybe even if we get in this year, we can be the old med students in the student section next year.

pardon my arrogance, but I thought the committee meets on 3/23 to decide our fate?

Do you mean ignorance? 🙂 The committee meets once a week, but the final meeting is 3/23, meaning that you could potentially get a decision made any Wednesday between now and then, but most likely you'll hear after the 3/23 meeting. (AAMC requires, basically, that schools notify applicants of their status by 3/30).

I got a bad cold and jet lag going at the same time!! leave me alone 😡 😛 . Good luck everyone.
God bless,
kid.

I guess the EXCOM aren't husky b-ball fans, huh?

They are only fans of making people miserable.

been awful quiet lately. did all of you get in or just sick of talking about how painful it is to be the dreaded pool? if anyone has any info like how many spots are left or how many people are still in the pool, please help relieve us from some anxiety.

The latter for me. Although, I was on the waiting list for the mini-med school lecture series and got an email saying "Welcome to UW Mini-Medical School!" and I thought, wow, if the word "mini" weren't there I'd be bouncing off the walls! And I get all the emails for scholarships from the financial aid office. I could almost pretend I'm admitted..... Or not. I know nothing about spots left, etc. Just thought I'd commiserate. 🙂

I got rejected from the pool yesterday. I actually called because Alaska decisions were finalized last week, and they said my rejection letter is in the mail. 🙁 Good luck to you guys, though...I'm headed for re-application!

is not the easiest task these days!!! what have y'all been doing while treading water in this pool?? cell bio, supreme court & US Senate shenanigans, and teaching for the mcat are riveting, but not enough, exactly, to keep my mind off this perpetual (non)motion...weak grin!! so...i've turned to movies and fiction, every chance i get.

another question...does anyone know where out-of-staters fit into the adcom process? are we folded in w/ a particular state?

sarikate! sorry to hear youre not in this year. but glad to hear you're reapplying!!!! that is the best attitude ever. 🙂

Thanks! I figure another year to hang out in Alaska, working with psycho kids and playing the violin and maybe taking another Spanish class or something weird like basket-weaving or kayak-rolling can't be so bad. One more year, in the scheme of my life, will not make a huge difference in the end!

um...sorry? didn't know I was. Terribly sorry.

P.S. -- you smell like Kandy
I've been stalking your posts . . . 😱

I can't think of a good come-back for the "Kandy" remark, but when I do you're in for it!

whhaaaaatttt --- everybody likes a little sweet treat. What's your problem? You should sned Kandy to all of the people who applied to UW --- which DOESN'T include you. So get off our elite thread. 😉

Just because I've got a 23 MCAT and ZERO MD interviews does not mean I'm not human!
*in the voice of "elephant man"* "I'm not an animal!!"

excuses excuses -- technically you STILL could have applied.

I shouldn't have to. They should just know how superior I am and accept me.

Sarikate, I'm very disappointed to hear that. I was in the same boat last year, though, and I got in this round. I hope you apply (and get in) next year.

EXCOM meeting today and only two left until the three day marathon. Good luck everyone. :luck:

Thanks for the consistent updates. Have the dates for the last 3 meetings been determined? Last night I dreamt I was accepted to UW...today, my girlfriend was accepted to Albany. Weird. I'm left logging on to SDN every 15 minutes. Weird.

Sorry to hear about your rejection, but you've got a great attitude! There's a great likelihood that many of us will be joining you in that reapplication process, me for sure if I don't get in this time around....
Enjoy another year "off"!

What school has a geoduck as a mascot??? Gross. I hope you don't EAT those!

Gotta love the Greeners! The Evergreen State College is the official home of the geoducks, with a properly raunchy fight song to match that I only ever heard at graduation. Founded in the 70's--what can you do?
Oh, and for the record, I LOVE fried geoduck patties. I think it comes from being raised on the sound. Just don't look at them before they're ground up and there's no problem.... 😉

That is just wrong. How can a geoduck be an intimidating mascot?

Go Huskies! Especially the men's b-ball team with the Pac-10 tourney starting tomorrow vs. ASU! Then we're off to the Big Dance!!!

Geoducks are gross.

I have a question for all of you. I am also on the stinking competative pool list and waiting just as all of you are. I have already submitted a letter of intent to the school and I was wondering if you have heard if it is frowned upon to submit another letter here towards the end of the admissions timeline. I don't really have much to update but want to let them know that I really want to attend. Just curious as to what you have heard.

I'm pretty sure that once you sent a letter of intent, they know you really want to attend. At this point, you just have to weigh the cost and benefit...

cost: you have to write another letter and it's has to say something significantly different from your previous letter... more paper work and reading for them... more thinking and writting for you...

benefit: maybe it'll help things.. but how much? i don't know

Ok i have a question for everyone.. has anyone that was pulled of the waitlisted been accepted... I haven't heard of a case where people are pull of the waitlist before the final adcom meeting to be rejected.

First, on the whole goeduck thing, I'm a big scuba diver, and while I don't mind playing with those guys underwater, I cannot imagine eating one. As for being a mascot, well...OK. 😛

Second, I am an example of being pulled out of the pool twice. The first time was last year. Around mid-February, I was pulled out and rejected, having lingered for a month in the competitive pool. The second time was this year. I interviewed in early October, was placed in the pool, and pulled out and accepted January 21st. So it can go either way.
