Does anyone know anything about the University of West Indies Medical/Dental programs? Do they teach enough material to pass the US examinations? Or is it difficult?

thanks.

check here

It's a very good program and the teaching hospitals in Trinidad are by far the best in the Caribbean. Plus, as the second largest English-speaking country in the region, the variety of clinical material you'll get is better than other Caribbean schools. The school in general is pretty highly regarded since it was an offshoot of the University of London. The program also incorporates a bit of PBL too.

Really, you'd probably get better training there than at some US schools. However, UWI is based more on the British system and I'm not sure if it explicitly attempts to prepare students to pass US exams. As a Canadian, I find the tuition a bit steep considering what we pay here, but I think it's cheaper than most US schools and the other Caribbean ones.

hmm... very interesting. does anyone know how their graduates fair in the National Dental Boards? (the international dental forums never reply)

Thanks.

I thought no dental school outside of North America was recognised? Don't you have to apply to international dental programs and re-do years III and IV? Regarding UWI, the GMC in the UK have pulled their special recognition of it, and all other schools outside of the EU as of the end of this year (ie. Aus/NZ/SA etc.)

Pill is correct about redoing the last 2 years
