Hey everyone,

I figured this is the best place for this question, but I apologize if it should have been posted elsewhere. For those who took the UWorld Self Assessments (UWSA) prior to taking their CBSE, how do you think they correlate? I looked online at some med students' old posts and some people say the UWSA inflated their real Step 1 score, while others say it was accurate. Just wanted to get a sense if I should be pleased with my score or if the UWSA is just being too kind and I'm not where I think I am in terms of my preparation. Thank you and good luck to those studying for this test and lurking around here too.

Thanks for your reply, vellnueve. Do you think the released CBSEs do a better job simulating the actual test?

When I was studying for CBSE I looked all over SDN for posts about this and never found anything particularly good.

For me personally, UWSA over estimated by 5-7 points (CBSE points) and the real CBSE self-assessments underestimated by 2-3 points; my score essentially ended up being an average of the four tests I did (both UWSA and the two most recently released CBSE exams on the website).

Good luck studying!

I actually didn't do any of the released CBSEs, I did straight UWorld and First Aid. Would change that if I could go back.
If you don't mind me asking, how did you do on the test? you can pm me if you don't want to share publicly. Also, why would you change it? because that's what i'm doing right now.

the released exams will be more accurate, but only the most recent ones, since all the older tests have already been extensively incorporated into FA. UWSA estimated my score to be a 71 two weeks before the test. I studied for two solid weeks and got a 73 on the real thing. So yes, I do think that it slightly overestimated my score, because I crammed alot in my head during those last two weeks.

Did you get the 71 by looking at the 3 digit score UWSA gives you and looking at what that would be on the NBME, or using the assessment score and then doing the same thing? For example, my 3 digit score was 216 but my assessment score was a 490. Which do I look at to see what my NBME score would be?

You convert it twice. UWSA Score (490) -> Step 1 Score (216) -> CBSE Score (~76)

Look at this score report conversion chart:
